Hi ladies I can remember a few days ago there was a question about how long you should keep the terrible stocks on for after your operation. I can't find the thread to reply on sorry.
I had my operation recently and iam pretty mobil but my CNS said yesterday they prefer us to wear them for 4 weeks.
I know it varies for each individual and different health authorities seem to have their own views. I just thought I would let you know what I have been told.
Best regards Robin xxx
Hi Robin27, I too had to wear my socks for 4 weeks, the hospital gave me several pairs so I could wash them. My surgeon was quite insistent about it and he also insisted I used the anti clot injections for 4 weeks too. He also told me to inject into the top of my leg not my stomach. Boy, was I glad when those four weeks were up!
Hi Robin27. Like Jigsaw33 I also injected the top of my legs after tum became too sore. If you have to do the anti-clotting jabs for 4 weeks it makes sense to put up with the dreaded compression stockings!.

How many weeks have you got to do your jabs? The injections in the leg hurt as much as they did in the tummy! I did both cos I didn’t really take in what my surgeon said, and when the nurse in the general discharge unit gave me the pack she told me to do it into the stomach. After a few days I spoke to the CNS and she asked me where I was injecting, I told her and she said “ oh Mr Hughs will be cross with them, they keep giving our patients the wrong instruction”. It doesn’t fill you full of confidence does it!! But made sense to me not to bruise the stomach even more around the site of the key hole surgery.
I didn’t consider myself a clotting risk either, I was active and not over weight etc so I don’t know why I had to endure them for so long! All the hospitals seem to have different methods.
I was told 28 days for the sexy socks and I was given enough injections for the same period - interesting the different views about where to inject - in hospital they said they don’t recommend tummy but in the arm or thigh -so I’ve been doing alternate thighs and it’s been bearable with little bruising.

Hi Chrissie hope your continuing to get better each day.
So interesting how we are told different things. Enoxaparin is the injections that Iam on I don't know if it varies by brand but the instructoins with these states stomach but if you want to change the injection site consult your doctor first.

Robin I was initially told 4 weeks but then when I went for my results after two weeks, I asked if I still had to wear them (having said I was walking 20-30 mins twice a day) and they laughed and said if I was walking that much then I didn’t need to wear them any more. The idea is to wear them until you’re up to your previous level of activity. Do you have your appointment yet?
Hi Marmite Hope you Radiotherapy stil going well.
Yes I'm sure it varies by person and how much they are moving around.
I go for my Hystology results with my consultant late tomorrow afternoon. Feel nervous about it but whatever happens I know I can deal with it. iam staying very positive.
Best regards Robin
I agree with Marmite fan. If your level of activity is back to normal, you don't need the stockings. Its sitting around which can be dangerous. My husband got a blood clot when in hospital and is now on blood thinners (tablets, fortunately) for 3 months!!!
I knew I might have the gene which predisposes you to thrombosis as my daughter was tested after she had a DVT in her 20's. Its fairly common. So, I had to have injections for 6 weeks!!! I had them on alternate thighs.
