If Uterine and Ovarian Cancer have no symptoms in early stages....why is there not a look up there during a Pap Smear?

Why?

So many people are needlesly getting cancer rather than a simple SCOPE!

  • Hi . Excuse my ignorance, what is a Scope? Not come across that before.

  • OK, read up on it now. I'm assuming it's a more invasive action that needs to be done by a surgeon whereas it's nurses who normally do Pap smears. A Pap smear will not detect Endometrial cancer as you rightly say. A blood test will not detect our cancer unless the CA125 markers are elevated. I'm not medically trained so not sure.

Hi Barb...I didn't use the correct word...Hyterscopy or something like that is what I am having basically its a camera to look up there...I know you recoginize it now.  I shortened it to "scope" from the "scopy".

And I spelled it wrong and probably will again Hysterscopy (there).  Um...the Dr. can tell immediately what is going on in there....I'm going to be asking while he is doing it...OK, am I having a hysterectomy now?

  • No, the hysteroscopy, camera in the womb, is normally done and they'll also do a biopsy at the same time. The cells taken will be examined under a microscope to see if they're cancerous. The hysteroscopy has a look around the womb.

Then you may have a CT scan and/or MRI scan. Your MDT (Multidisciplinary Team consists of Surgeons, Oncologists, Anaesthetists and theatre staff, CNs's) will discuss their findings and agree a plan of treatment if necessary.

You are SO so helpful for all you are going thru and i don't even know yet if I even have cancer.

My gut and symptoms tell me I do....I used to take asprin every day which I think was masking my pelvic and back pain and then I bled post menopause...but daily my pelvic region has a dull aching pain...and I have had a lower back pain for a couple of years.

This is all so cumbersome...why (and I'm not asking, just speaking out loud)...why would I need a freaking CT or MRI if they are going to get an actual sample?

I do understand they want chest x rays and MRIs AFTER a Cancer diagnosis...to see if it spread.  And luckily, I get screened yearly for Lung Cancer and I just completed that scan...was clear so they can use that...

Thanks again "Barb" can I call you Barb?
