Hi I’m going to see the nurse on wed for her to do an internal to check my cervix.
I’m been referred for ultrasound.
will that be it if the ultrasound is ok or Will there automatically do more tests?
I had a period that lasted 12 days and was heavy. Been on HTR for 5 years and due to POSC I only have 3/4 periods a year
Hi Twinmum welcome to the forum. I can appreciate how worried that you are. The Nurse will probably have a look like they do in a Smear Test of the Cervix as this is the opening of the womb, they should be able to see if all seems well.
The Ultrasound may be Internal or External. If its External then it will be like an Ultrasound that you would have the wand being rolled over your tummy area after gel is applied. If it is an Internal one and I suspect with what is happening for you it may be. I can speak to this as I have undergone this recently myself. They will use a speculum like for a smear and the ultrasound wand will be passed into your womb and they can see this on the screen in the room. Its more crampy than sore but not the most comfortable test but they will be able to see if there is any thickening of the lining to the womb which could be causing the heavy bleeding or there may be polyps and they will most likely wish to take biopsies which you shouldn't feel, at most its a nip but you will bleed after so go prepared as I didn't . If they do take biopsies these will get sent away there and then for testing.
Hope thats useful and that I havent put you off. xxxxxx
Hi Twinmum. and a warm welcome to our spot in the Online Community.
I can't add anything more really to what GRANNY59 has said.
I do know the normal procedure at my hospital was the Sister would look at the Ultrasound then send you for a hysteroscopy and biopsy if she saw something abnormal. That was pre-Covid and they tend to do a separate appointment now I think.

Hi thank you for your reply.
I’m 48 mum to 19th are old twins.
started earlier menopause about 10 years ago and have PCOS. Finally gave in and went on HRT in 2017 and an amazing difference.
why I’m having tests is I have just had a 12 days really heavy period. Mine are normally 3/4 times a years and only 2/3 days and really light.
when I think back I have had the odd blood when I’ve been for a wee but just thought it would be my period as I don’t normally get any signs of it starting.
I had my left ovary removed in 2019 after a teratoma 6cm x 8cm was found while looking into invisible blood in my urine.
I have a check up with menopause nurse later but only a phone call.
internal check with nurse on wed and waiting on ultrasound appointment.
I do get times maybe now had 5 times in the last year where I get woken up my the most painful feeling in my lower tummy and back. It’s like everything is being pushed down and I find I feel like I need to rock to help the pain. I’ve just had this last night for about 12 hours and it’s finally starting to easy.
I think that’s it lol x

The ultrasound wand is passed only into your vagina, not into your womb. It's called a transvaginal scan and they can see the inside of the womb easier with this. They were unable to see my womb at all with the external one as it was retroverted.
There’s a lot to learn when you join a new group and it took me quite a while to learn what’s what here (and I’m still learning how to negotiate the site) so there’s really no need to apologise, bless you
