Feeling relieved!

Hi everyone - my operation went well really yesterday and they managed to take everything out via assisted vaginal laparoscopy (despite my uterus being very large and swollen).  It feels such a relief to have the nasty cancer taken out (or even part of it if they didn’t manage to get it all).  I’m still in hospital as I’m having trouble passing water (drinking lots but can’t wee).  Did anyone else have this problem? xx

  • Hi Lolabo, bless you and glad the op went well. Did you have a catheter overnight?

  • Yes I did - hate them so much!  Thankfully I suddenly got the urge to go all of a sudden and was then allowed to go home.  Trouble is now I’ve started I can’t stop!!  It was very painful coming home as I was so desperate for the loo x

  • Bless you - so glad you’re home. I hate them too and as soon as mine was out I realised all the discomfort I’d had, for which I’d needed pain relief, was down to that and not my op! I did find my bladder was extremely sensitive for a day or two afterwards - the consultant told me that the bladder gets pushed around quite a bit during the op - but it settled down.

  • Thank you - that’s so reassuring it wasn’t just me.  After I got home i had stomach cramps all night from trapped wind, but now that bits over too I am feeling much better - just a bit sore, but that’s definitely to be expected!  Hope I recover now as quickly as you have, you have done amazingly well MarmiteFan59  xx

  • Hi Lolabo,

I had quite a lot of trouble with passing water. I was kept in hospital for 2 days because my bladder didn't empty. I had some strange things when I got home, going every few minutes, urine pouring out of me uncontrollably in the bath. I went back to hospital to be checked out 4 days after leaving!!! They said it was all just settling down.  Take it easy. xxxxx

  • When I got home, I found that, for the first few days, if I needed a wee my bladder became a bit painful. But that settled down. I kept my diet light too to help prevent/lessen wind pains. I’m so happy my recovery is going well - I’d read that it was possible to be both sensible and recover quickly, and I was determined. I’m disciplined about not lifting (or bending down) but have kept up the exercise from the day I came home. Even at the hospital pre discharge I was up and down the corridors a fair bit. I think gentle exercise helps clear the lungs of that yellow stuff from the anaesthetic and helps get the digestion going again - as well of course in helping the circulation get back to normal and building strength - so I’d really recommend daily walks, even just 5 mins. Take care and I hope you also recover well. Do you know yet when you will get your results?

  • That’s very reassuring.  I’m taking it easy but keep getting up every now and then to walk round the house and also to go to the loo lol.  I haven’t been given any exercise plans, so assuming it’s just light walks that you gradually build up.  I was told I would get a call in approx 2 weeks for my results xx

  • I was worried as even with the catheter I was drinking lots but it wasn’t coming back out.  It definitely does weird things to your bladder but mine is starting to settle down a bit.  I don’t get much warning for needing the loo now though and it takes me a while to walk there! xx

  • Hey Lolabo so pleased to hear from you and been wondering if all was well.

I couldn't wait fir the catheter to come out and begged them to take it out ASAP. I found first few pees a bit delicate but I drank loads of Water and so was allowed to go home. They  scanned my bladder after 2 pees to see if it was completely emptying and  it was.

However I had to go back to the hospital recently as I was leaking large amounts of fluid from vagina that looked like urine. It turns our that it's lymphatic drainage and they've advised it should settle in few weeks.  It's because I've had pelvic lymph nodes removed.

I do hope your recovery goes well.

  • Hi Madesp - It’s so lovely to hear from you, I was wondering how you were getting on.  I still can’t walk very far yet, trying to build up to 5 min walks outside but it really pulls on my stitches when I walk.  My stomach is still very swollen which makes having my blood thinning injections painful too.  Think I just need to get my bowels going, but not having any luck there despite being prescribed laxatives! xx
