Hi
I had a 19cm uterine sarcoma removed last august, by having full hysterectomy, it’s now growing back, and 7cm , so I now need radiotherapy treatment now, as they can’t operate again.
Has anyone else here had external radiation to pelvis? Does it shrink or completely remove the tumour? I’m just so worried and confused
Thank you
jane
Yep , I think so . Not had the follow up MRI and CT scans yet, and the cancer was in my pelvic lymph nodes as well, so they have had a blast too! I also had a hysterectomy 7 years ago with a mass in the uterus. Do have a look on the anal cancer forum , lots of help and advice on there I found very useful as there are side effects from the radiotherapy which it is good to be prepared for . I presume maybe they might treat cervical cancer which has spread with radiotherapy too. Oh, I also had chemo at the same time, are they going to do that with you ? Good luck
Hi Jane,Applogies , my message was confusing, I just meant I think they do pelvic radiotherapy for things like cervical and prostate cance as well. My cancer this time was at the junction of rectum and anus , a squamous cell carcinoma with spread to local lymph nodes. The growth in my womb years ago was different , a benign leiomyoma. I had a radical hysterectomy and the cervix was all taken away at the time .The chemo radiotherapy I have had is meant to be curative . I hope it is for you too, though not great if you have spread to your lung. I believe the chemo can be very effective though . Good luck I hope all goes well for you x
Thank you Pita. I think I understand it now.
I don’t think any of my treatment is supposed to be curative as told it wasn’t curable.
I don’t know what the radiotherapy is for, or what it will do, I guess I will find this out later at 4pm.
Thank you
xx
Hi Jane
I have had pelvic radiotherapy, 25 sessions along with 2 different chemos and finished with brachytherapy.
I have had my 1st of 2 MRI’s and as it stands at the moment there is no trace of the disease so up until now, yes it has in my case.
I understand that you will be super anxious however in my case, I found the radiotherapy less impactful than the chemo. I did experience fatigue as the weeks went on and I have had some issues after treatment.
If you want to know anything else please let me know
Jen
