Today marks 2 years since my LAVH-BSO for Stage1/Grade1a womb cancer and it's brought up some memories of that time that I'm sure are familiar to everyone on the forum: the worrying waits for scans and results,  the need to learn a whole new medical language in a hurry (what is an MDT? what is a LAVH-BSO? what on earth is atypical hyperplasia? etc etc !!)  and the sudden switch from being someone happily getting on with life to someone having to deal with this new diagnosis.   I continue to be so very grateful that mine was caught early and that I was able to be treated and recover just before Covid-19 hit us all.  Recently, two friends have not been so lucky.

Anyone else from the January 2020 cohort still around?  I hope you're all doing OK.  I'm now on annual check-ups and all seems to be well but there's that little niggling worry that a few cells might be quietly multiplying somewhere as yet unknown.   Knowing that the forum is always here for support is such a great resource so I'll be doing more fundraising for Macmillan later this year.  A friend and I managed the half-marathon on the Macmillan Mighty Hike in the Lake District in 2021 and I've signed up for the full marathon on the South Downs this summer.   I must be mad!!

xx

  • Hi . I'm surprised there aren't any ladies from a couple of years ago answering. I do think though a lot of ladies, having had their brush with the "C" word leave and not look back as it was such a scary time in their lives. I also don't think the little niggling worries never leave us either. I think it's important if yo do have any worries to be persistent and follow them up - don't be fobbed off.

In my own case I wasn't fobbed off, I'd actually had my first annual all clear (with internal camera & examination) but I knew something wasn't right so persisted with my doctor so be aware of your body and what feels unusual. In my case it was shortness of breath when walking and being unable to take in deep breaths.

Well done you for completing the half marathon in the Lake district and signing up for a full marathon later this year. I prefer a long walk with the dog (& hubby) and do 3-5 miles daily.

As you said this forum is second to none for providing support, I couldn't do without it!

    Hugs, Barb xx
