Hi everyone
I know that this may seem like a silly question but has anyone had “hot flushes “ after their hysterectomy. I had my operation at end of October with ovaries removed. Luckily, I did not require any further treatment. Having gone through the menopause years ago I have now started to have hot flushes. Is this normal?
I feel a little foolish asking this but I don’t know what else could be causing this other than removal of my ovaries although I am 64.
Tahe care everyone.
Hi Shirley100 welcome to the forum and I hope that you don't mind me popping in from the Breast Cancer group when I saw your post.
I like you have discovered that despite going through the Menopause, again like you many years ago,. our bodies can continue for many years to produce small amounts of Oestrogen and store this in our bodies. Please don't feel foolish, its little wonder that you are asking as I would do as well. Hope that is of some re-assurance for you. xx
Hi Shirley100. I was 50 when I went through the menopause in 2011 and I have had hot flushes on and off for 10 years. When I first had my hysterectomy last month I had a few flushes which felt a bit different and a bit more tingly and hot in my face but they seem to have settled back down again-famous last words-I will probably have another one later!! I’m pleased that you didn’t need any further treatment. Good luck XX
Thanks for you reply. It just seems so strange as I didn’t really suffer greatly with hot flushes dy Menotti.
Taje care
Hi Shirley, yep I’m getting ‘em! I went thru menopause years ago, but had hot flushes (and night sweats, so no decent nights sleep) for about 16 years!! Used to get at least one an hour at first. In the last few years they were finally going then I had my hysterectomy in August 2020 and back they came. I did ask the oncologist about it, he just shrugged and said it will settle down. I think they have settled now, tho I still get very hot very quickly sometimes, but not those massive power surges like before. I used to feel I could heat up a city the size of Manchester!,
Hi Shirley
Yes, this happened to me as well. I'd more or less stopped having them prior to surgery, but once my ovaries were removed, back they came - in July, in Athens! Fortunately the effect was fairly short lived, but it was dramatic for a few days, and the medics kept a close eye on me while they were going on.
Hope you get rid of them before too long!
