When I met with my consultant she said thst she would schedule my hysterectomy for mid January. I am now starting to worry that Covid19 might impact on the timescale she suggested.  Anyone know if treatments were affected in previous lockdowns? Thank ypu

  • I’m waiting for my date too and have been wondering the same. Have you had your pre-assessment yet?

No pre assessment yet. I think they generally take folk for this only a few days before, then you have to isolate till the day of the operation

  • Where I am, it’s the PCR and final blood test that happen in the week before the op. The pre-assessment (height/weight, blood pressure, blood test, past/present health/meds questionnaire etc) is done before that, I had my pre-assessment last Weds and was told that the op will normally happen within a month, otherwise the pre-assessment would be out of date and need re-doing.

I have only had one consultation and they did some of this but not bloods or blood pressure, so it maybe that I still need this. Seems each hospital or consultant does it their way. My biggest concern is that there may be a delay due to rising numbers of covid patients.

  • I’d think delays may be more likely due to staff being off sick through Covid. I guess we will just have to wait and see. More waiting!

You may well be right. Fingers crossed we both get what we need soon. Take care and keep me posted and I will do the same xx

  • Hi Ladies, When I had my pre op well before Covid they said it lasted a month. I was pleased about that because my original op date was taken up by an emergency, and I had my op 2 weeks later. xx

  • Hi  I remember all of my tests were all done in the midst of lockdown and always worried if covid would affect timescales but fortunately for me it didn't. I do recall one lady was all prepped and pretty well ready to go when she was told she actually had Covid and sent home which was awful for her. Unless ICU beds fill up to capacity because of Covid you should be ok. I think all operations are planned needing a certain number of HDU beds to be available.

I basically became a hermit ( & hubby) as I didn't want anything to impact on my treatment so we avoided people like the plague.

Fingers crossed for you, Barb xx

Many thanks Barb. My husband bless him has been "guarding us" from going out and doing any mixing in order to keep us both well. I find it all quite frustrating not being able to live normally but oChristmas treecourse I know he is right. Good to know your appointments and treatment wasn't affected. Have  lovely Christmas Christmas tree

  • Hi, my total open hysterectomy was done in July this year. I had to isolate for two weeks but the op was done on the day it was booked for. At our local hospital there is a separate women's unit for gynaecological services and obstetrics. Try not to worry, I'm sure it will go ahead as planned.
