Hi just received a letter stating that I am having my results next Wednesday. My mind is everywhere.
I am concerned that a different consultant is going to speak to me. Why would this happen?
I am so stressed out. I don’t know how I am going to manage for another week.
Take care.
Hi Shirley,
I have spoken to 2 different consultants since my op in May but both work as part of the same consultancy team. Whoever speaks to you will have all the information needed. If you want to you can speak to the original consultant you are familiar with, it is your right to ask to see who you would prefer. You could try ringing the secretaries office or your CNS and voice your concerns.
Good Luck with your results, sending you a big hug,
Sylvia xx
Hi
Thanks for your reply, I am constantly “looking for clues”. My mental state is not at its best. I will give the nurse a call.
Thanks and take care.
Hi Shirley,
Are you having a telephone call or do you have an appointment face to face? I would speak to your specialist nurse, or maybe speak to the consultants secretary to just try and put your mind at rest. It could be something as simple as the original consultant is away if it’s going to be someone else. Does the letter actually say it will be a different consultant, or are you just assuming this? They will fully understand your anxiety, the very nature of the disease we have been branded with makes our emotions catastrophise , they will be used to it. At three weeks it was my nurse specialist who advised my result by telephone, but I have to go to the hospital next week to get the full information and follow up check up. It’s easy to say don’t read too much into things Shirley, I know that only too well, but try not to worry and get yourself into an emotional state, try and get some insight by giving them a ring. Always around if you need a chat, lots of love Emm. Xx
Hi
Its a telephone call. They have named the consultant.
I have left a message with the nurse. Hopefully she will get back to me soon.
Take care. X
Hi Shirley100 I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had all my meetings, scans etc. smack bang in the middle of lockdown last year. I met the male Consultant who I assumed would be doing my laparoscopic hysterectomy and was pleased as he was a top man in his field. After my op a lady consultant surgeon introduced herself to me the next day saying all had gone well so he hadn't operated anyway. (That was in Nottinghamshire)
I met my Oncologist in Lincolnshire (my home county) for Brachytherapy and after I was discharged back to Gynaecology for post op check-ups I met yet another Consultant who will be mine for the next 2 years - no big deal he is rather dishy.
So I think perhaps the days of the person who operates on you and looks after your care for the next few years is no more. In fact my last check-up was with yet another consultant, female this time, part of the same consultancy team!
Funnily enough the surgeon who did my op was over from Nottingham and in the building but I didn't get a chance to meet her as she was in meetings.
I suppose I've now got a bit blasé with all these strangers having a poke and prod about I'm surprised I haven't said, that's ok, bring a friend!
Try not to worry, big hugs, Barb xx

Thank you Sylvia.
I have spoken to my nurse who is arranging for my original surgeon to call me.
I am also a bit concerned that it is not the nurse giving me my results if they were good results. My mind is in constant turmoil.
Many thanks for your advice.

Hi Shirley, after my open hysterectomy in July my consultant came to see me and told me that there was no cancer after all. I was happy that it was a false alarm. Then 10 days later the gynae nurse rang me to tell me that I had leiomyosarcoma and was being referred to the Christie hospital in Manchester sarcoma consultant. I was stunned. So don't worry that the nurse hasn't told you the results it could just be the policy of the hospital you're attending. Try not to worry...easier said than done I know
Hi Shirley100, just to put your mind at ease a bit. I know from my experience and from what others have said is that you have a medical team which includes if my memory if mine is right about six consultants, and I have seen four of them up to now and they have all been really kind and helpful and knowledgeable of my situation. I believe there is four CNS but i was assigned one as my mine point of contact but i can speak to either. There is radiographers and other specialists too. It really puts in to perspective just how many people are involved in your care and it does help especially as for example one of the consultants maybe away so another can speak and see you. I hope everything goes well on Wednesday I know it’s going to be nerve wrecking when you receive your results but I have my fingers crossed for you.
sending you some gentle bear hugs
