Hi I'm 52 years old my period was 6 months ago and recently had another one in July lasting i about 4 weeks and very very heavy my doctor sent me for a scan last week so I was just wondering if somebody in layman terms can explain what the results mean please, hypertrophic and heterogeneous appearance of the myometrium in keeping with fibroid changes, uniform trilaminar endometrium measuring 7.9 mm, small amounts of fluid within the endometrial cavity at the level of a cervix no vascularity demonstrated, just not sure to be concern or not as I haven't got a clue what it all means
Thank you in advance for any advice
Hi and a warm welcome to our spot in the Online Community. None of us are medically trained but between us we amassed a lot of knowledge and we all have/had womb cancer. So from what what I've read your scan has revealed your womb muscle has thickened in keeping with fibroids but the muscle isn't as smooth as it should be.
At 67 I had a couple of days of a pink mucous like discharge a couple of days apart, mentioned to my bestie and she nagged me to consult my GP and i was referred to the 2 week wait cancer screening pathway. The first test was an ultrasound scan which revealed my uterus muscle was thicker than the norm - that usually set alarm bells ringing so after that I had a hysteroscopy (camera in the womb) and biopsy planned. Was unable to do, stenosed cervix made camera insertion too painful so had done under GA (Epidural). Following that MRI scan then CT scan, each was about a week/ten days apart. I naively still thought nothing to worry about and when I got an appointment to see the consultant I called to ask was this really necessary, if it was going to be a 6 monthly check-up rather go more locally. My Consultant's appointment was in Nottingham and I live of the far side of Lincolnshire. That was when the bombshell was dropped on my - surgery was needed I had cancer - Total disbelief set in.
Anyway, long story short had hysterectomy (keyhole) and removal of fallopian tubes, ovaries and cervix. 3 sessions of high dose internal radiation. Op was 17th September, Brachytherapy finished 5th November. Already had 3xthree monthly check-ups all clear.

Hi. And thank you. Are you doing ok now how long did ago was this?, I just didn't know what to make of the report the Dr phoned me and said he was going to make a 2 Week urgent referral I really di't know what the words hypertrophic and heterogeneous meant and is 7.9mm thickness to thick or average? I am not going to worry about it too much I'll just have to wait and see
Hi again.
I consulted my GP on 3rd June, had hysterectomy on 17th September last year, 6 weeks later 3 sessions of Brachytherapy. Just about due for 4th post op consultation all ok previous 3. I do confess though any unknown ache and pain sets me worrying so in that my life has changed but I'm a lot more appreciative of what I have!
I wouldn't know what the normal thickness is TBH. I just nodded and smiled in the right places I think and didn't take a word in! It's a good idea to keep a notebook to hand and jot down any questions you have.
This is an emotional roller-coaster there's no doubt about that but you're not alone, we're all here to listen.
Big hugs, Barb x

Hi Mamo,
I don't understand half what your report says!! It mentions fibroid changes. Well I had one in there that I knew nothing about, but I was told they shrink after the menopause, so they don't worry about them. I was told my womb thickness was normal, but I had a lot of fluid, so he took a biopsy which proved I had cancer. Mine was caught early and I only needed a hysterectomy, which was done by keyhole. Marvellous invention!! I healed quickly even at 72 years old. That was 4 years ago now. xx
