  • Hi Teah,

Welcome to the forum, although no-one really wants to be here. It sounds as if you've got the best level of cancer (if you have to have it). I was 1a, but grade 2, but just had a hysterectomy. I regard myself as lucky!  I had keyhole surgery which is marvellous, and I recovered well at 72 years old. That was 4 years ago now. The operation was not as bad as I expected, and the pain was only like a bad period pain (I could barely remember them!) I'm sure you will be fine. xxx

Hello Teah, I'm just at the start of the journey too. Was told two days ago that I've got  stage 1 endometrial cancer. Waiting to have scans to check it hasn't spread. They're hoping to do my operation by keyhole but am worried as I'm very overweight.  Also had previous surgery so hope it doesn't make it more difficult. I'm 59 by the way.

Fingers crossed we both get good news. X X

    Hello Bubble59

I weighed 22 stone when i had my keyhole/robotic hysterectomy 3 mths ago.

I assumed my size would be an issue also and expected to be asked to lose weight before the procedure could be done. But this wasn't the case.

What i would say is that post op i experienced extensive lower abdominal bruising (fat rolls). I accepted this was due to my size and it extended my recovery by a couple of weeks ie getting in and out of bed and off/on chairs etc....

  • Hello ,

I would like to add my welcome to the wonderful replies you have received. Being diagnosed with cancer really is a rolla coster ride. Your emotions will be up and down, worrying about what is next. I was 37 well 9 days before my 38th Birthday when diagnosed so pre menopause but because of periods for a long while they assumed it was just fibroids but of course it wasn't. But the hospital  i had my hysterectomy are incredible made it all very do able and i was staged 1a grade 2 but the hysterectomy was my only treatment. The worst bit I found was the waiting it always seems forever, after your op you wait around 3 weeks generally for your final staging and if any of treatment is required. Of course the days of covid make things more stressful because of visitor restrictions etc. I went yesterday to see one of my oncologists and the hospital procedure to protect people from covid was very impressive and I felt so comfortable there, all these things are important. Oh and don’t worry at all you certainly wasn’t waffling and i can say here with different stages and grades and treatment there is usually always someone who can share their wealth-of experiences and knowledge, your not alone.

Sending you some gentle bear hugs Bear and good luck for Monday. There is a thread in this group https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/womb-cancer-forum/f/womb-cancer-forum/217904/what-to-take-in-my-overnight-bag which you may find useful.

  • Hello Teah and Bubble59

I am 57 and I had bleeding on and off  for about 13 months that I put down to menopause but finally made the decision to see my GP who sent me to the hospital.  I had my hysterectomy on  25th May for what they thought were lots of fibroids. I was 15 1/2  stone and had what the consultant called a cesarean cut but this was due to my anatomy rather than my weight. I was allowed home on the 28th.  It turned out it was cancer grade 1 stage 1a so no further treatment. I was on paracetamol and  ibuprofen for about 2 weeks after I got home but the pain was very manageable.

I  wish you both all the very best with your ops. Take care xx
