Hello folks, I’ve not been here for a while, sorry, but I’ve just encountered bleeding and this was the first place I have turned to for help/advice.
A quick bit on me, stage 1 grade 3 womb cancer, diagnosed February ‘19, along with large cyst on one ovary. Cyst removed January ‘19, Radical hysterectomy March ‘19 followed by 25 R/T and 3 brachy sessions all concluding July ‘19. So I am approaching 2 years since my surgeries and haven’t had any problems or concerns since, thankfully.
All follow up appointments with my oncologist have been fine and I’m on 6 Monthly checkups now.
I wear a panty liner daily and yesterday I noticed brown discharge like marks. This morning after wiping myself after a pee I noticed red blood on the tissue. Instant panic of course, but I calmed down and decided to try the dialators and see if I had any obvious pain or bleeding. No pain but definite bleeding along one side.
What do I do next? Do I leave it and see if it clears/continues? Do I call my doctor? Do I call my oncologist? I don’t know where to turn or what to do.
Any help, advice, kind words etc would be very appreciated right now. I live alone and lockdown is effecting my mental health a lot, so any guidance would be great please. Thank you xx
Try not to worry, it could just be a simple tear to the post- menopause, thinned lining of the vagina, but I think that it would be best to phone your CNS or oncologist to have an internal examination. It's always best to get these things checked out. I had the same problem before Xmas and arranged to see my oncologist but it turned out to be nothing of concern, Take care. xx
Hi Chellby, try not to go immediately to panic mode, but I would definitely give your CNS or oncologist a ring, the sooner the better really. Obviously something is not quite right, but it could be something very minor. Best to put your mind at rest as soon as possible, you don’t want to be worrying for days.
I am 5months post op now, but just before Xmas I rang my CNS contact in a panic as I had a lump appear at the back of my throat and of course immediately thought I had throat cancer! They reassured me, advised a trip to GP, who treated me for tonsillitis! Our minds always jump to the worst conclusions don’t they!
You sound as if you’ve been doing great so far, so just get on the phone tomorrow, and wish you all the very best,
Viv
Hi do you mind me asking how come you had so much treatment I was grAde2 stage 1a and had only surgey also how old was u at diagnoses I was 31 xx
Thanks for your reply. It’s so hard to not let the worry consume thinking, especially when on my own with no one there to reassure me.
I’ll call my CNS tomorrow and hopefully get an appointment to be examined. I’m trying not to think the worst, but need to remain realistic.
I was 38 when I was diagnosed, and my treatment is what was suggested by my oncologist because of the cyst that was removed mainly and to be sure it hadn’t traveled within the area. Radiotherapy for me was a precautionary/preventative measure, no trace was found elsewhere, but just to be sure I received treatment. I also had several large polyps in my uterus.
Everyone is different in terms of treatment, it’s not always the same treatments for the same stages/grades
xx

Yes the cyst did contain cancerous cells, it apparently was the size of a melon so they had to be sure it hadn’t attached and transferred to any other organs inside. Thankfully it hadn’t.
Happy to answer questions, first surgery removed the cyst and the ovary/tube it was attached to. Incision from public line to above tummy button. Recovery on that was 4-5 weeks until I was able to move around and do things properly. Second surgery was radical hysterectomy. Recovery for that one was a little longer 6-8 weeks, mainly because they’d gone in via the same scar that was healing from the first surgery.
I wish you well with your recovery xx
