Hi,
I had 2 episodes of post menopausal bleeding ( I’m 60) and gp is on the ball so immediately sent me for a scan and a biopsy, scan showed 9 Mm thickness- I’m overweight so would fit in the category for cancer- nothing else showed on the scan, had a pipelle biopsy 3 weeks ago and still waiting for results- I’m a nurse so am very pragmatic about it probably being cancerous, told the consultant I would want a total hysterectomy via keyhole surgery so am fully prepared for it, but of course my imagination is running wild as he told me if it was negative I’d get a letter so as no letter has arrived I’m assuming there’s something there- I’m in Scotland so has anyone had similar or is this pretty normal- my GP did say 3 4 weeks was more realistic.
thanks

Hi Mum2k
My biopsy date was 17th July, got results 2 weeks later, then MRI scan followed by ct scan. Consultation was 20th August. My keyhole hysterectomy was on 17th September. Seen my Oncologist today and brachytherapy will be end of this month. I'm in England but all has been cross-county (I live in East Lincolnshire but keyhole op done in Nottingham)
Our NHS are brilliant, trust in them and good luck to you, welcome to the group!

Hi Mum2k,
This is a horrible time waiting to know but it's great the your G.P was on the ball, perhaps they will call you rather than send a letter that might turn up in the post a bit later. Everyone on here has had their Imaginations running riot just as you are so be perfectly understand, as far as I know 3-4 weeks waiting time is pretty standard & it's good that you are prepared for surgery & as you say you are a nurse.
Please keep talking, we will all help you as much as we can once you know more when you get your results.
Love & Hugs
Justine
Thank you,
the registrar who did my biopsy said they usually send a letter if it’s negative and call you if it’s cancerous just to discuss treatment with you but I’ll just need to wait I suppose.

Hi Judith,
Yes once you & they have results things move quite quickly within a few weeks normally but of course maybe COVID has altered that slightly. They will do surgery ASAP which is good news so try & take one thing at a time I know this is hard as so many things go through your mind & I really hope they contact you soon at least then you will be able to prepare for the surgery & afterwards when you return home.

Hi Mum2k, I’m 62 and in West Lothian, I saw the Consultant on the 16th August for a Hysteroscopy when they did a biopsy. I got told I’d probably get the results by post, but I was contacted by phone on 2nd September to go see the Consultant on the 3rd and was told at that appointment it was cancer. I had a wee caravan break booked for Sept 14th to 21st but as it was only about 3hrs away he asked if I’d be willing to come back for my scan. I came home on 21st Sept to my MRI and CT scan appointment letters. I had my MRI (24th Sept) and CT scan (2nd Oct). I’m now waiting on scan results. I was told by Radiologist it would be about 7 days for the results to get to my Consultant. So all in from date of diagnosis it will be around the 4 week mark. Everything has gone through really quickly but I’m learning that the waiting part is the worst. Hope you get word soon.

Hi,
so I’ll hopefully hear this week. What we’re your initial symptoms? And are you having a hysterectomy?

Hi, I do hope so if only to put your mind at rest a wee bit. I had an episode of bleeding with what felt like severe menstrual cramps, I went to GP who referred me for internal scan thing (can’t remember proper name) and it all moved on from there. As far as I know I’m having a hysterectomy, at least that’s the indication given by Consultant, I just took it as a given from way he was explaining things. To be honest that day is a bit of a blur as what I was being told hadn’t even crossed my mind. My hysteroscopy didn’t go well and I was supposed to go back and get it done under general anaesthetic so they could check things properly. I had been given a surgery date of 7th Oct for the hysteroscopy and because of this I had an appointment with the anaesthetist on 3rd September, two hours after I was diagnosed, but obviously the surgery I was scheduled for had been changed and I had to notify the anaesthetist of that. While I was there they did all the pre-admission checks too, so I’m thinking that surgery is definitely on the cards.

Thanks,
similar to me, and I went as soon as I had the bleeding as I knew it wasn’t normal and I had an ultrasound that showed the thickness of the womb lining. I’m expecting the worst but at least I know it will be quick. I live in Edinburgh so went to the royal infirmary for my appointment .
I hope you get your date soon, keep in touch

Hi angie,
I phoned my GP surgery today as I still hadn’t heard anything, and the receptionist looked and said oh yes they’re still with the Doctor. I’ll flag it up for them to call you- was it your GP who phoned you or was it the hospital gynae department? Cos now I’m thinking it’s definitely cancerous because I haven’t had a letter saying it’s ok, but I’m not sure if the gp would be told first?
just wondering what your gp involvement was
hope you’re ok and have a date for your surgery
thanks
