Hello everyone, I am awaiting a biopsy on my womb however am concerned that I have been told my endometrial thickness is 26mm. Has anyone else had such a high measurement and is this an increased likelihood of cancer. I have tried contacting my GP and hospital however due to the Covid situation have been unable to ask anyone about this. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hello , welcome to our little corner of the community. You know I really cannot remember what my endometrial thickness was, I know it was complicated because I was diagnosed with womb cancer at 37 and just before my 38th Birthday three years ago, and obviously a thickness of the lining wouldn’t cause a red flag and also i had a couple of small fibroids, it was only when I had the biopsy that they found out the cause. But waiting to have the biopsy was really difficult time i was worrying about it and not being able to talk to someone about it was difficult, i only wish i had found this site sooner. You may of seen in the related posts that the lining can be different thickness that can be cancer but also other things I know this is really a difficult time waiting on your biopsy but everyone here totally understands we have all been where you are now. I believe the covid situation really doesn’t help any of us because of Gps not having face to face appointments which I assume is happening everywhere its a time when you really need to eyeball someone really and have everything explained, I know until you get your results it’s difficult to second guess what happening inside your body and I really hope that its not cancer, but i can understand that they need to explain everything that’s happening too.

The biopsy (hystroscopy)I had under general anesthetisic because I couldn’t tolerate the pain yet others have no problem getting though the biopsy and just feel some slight discomfort and they do say about taking some sort of pain relief before hand to help with it and also to help you relax, which isn’t easy when your nervous and in pain, but having a good look inside the womb can help identify any problems and also in some cases people have had the mirena coil fitted as this can reduce the lining. So I suppose its all down to the individual and what’s happening inside. Have you got a date for your biopsy yet?

    Sending you a big hug

  • Hi, welcome to the group I’m a newbie myself as everything has happened so quickly for me . I had a scan which showed a womb lining of 36mm . I had to have a hystoscopy first one was without any anaesthetic unfortunately I had a big clot in the way and so I had another under general anaesthetic. I found the hystoscopy  fine I had no pain just a little discomfort like a smear test only a small biopsy was able to be taken which showed inconclusive that’s why I had another under general anaesthetic. I was diagnosed with grade 1 cancer and was given a hysterectomy 10 days later . I was so frightened and was so glad I found this group who helped me along my journey. My cancer was staged at lB and no further treatment was needed. That was 6 weeks ago and I’ve recovered well and back to normal. I was told the thickness could be due to hormones or fibroids so try not to worry until you know what your up against .. just because the womb lining is thick it is not always cancer ... hope it goes well for you big hug x
