I don't know what to do, I'm always putting a brave face on but I don't know if I can break down in front of my children.
Hello and welcome ,
i am very sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis and you wanting to protect your children to your feelings and generally it seems your not sure how to approach the situation. Macmillan have a number of information booklets and online versions to help with different situations that we all have come across. I am unsure of your children’s ages but you may find this helpful https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/diagnosis/talking-about-cancer/talking-about-cancer , i am sorry its a long link my device will not let me do a shortened version. But this is a general talking about your diagnosis to children, family etc and i hope its of help. I was just before my 38 th birthday when i was diagnosed and my parents found reading the booklet information about womb cancer helpful https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/womb-cancer, these online versions are helpful to have a little look at for you too. The hardest part is actually trying to piece it all together for yourself, it’s difficult to talk to others until you understand yourself at times and thats ok. One thing here is we all understand we have all been where you are now scared and worrying about the unknown. All the ladies here are super friendly, supportive and helpful. You may find putting some information in your profile may help others help you more and also stops you having to repeat yourself too, so if you want you may want to do that. But first things first, breath its sounds simple but when your hit with them words that you have cancer you can end up numb with fear, sleeplessness and with all the fatigue feeling much worse. I know when i was diagnosed i just sat there thinking it was happening to someone else and not me it took months to sink in so dont beat yourself up about it all, we often put a brave face upto protect the ones we love but here you can be open. Lots of different stages and treatment so there is a wealth of combined knowledge, so when your ready just ask.
But for now i just wanted to reach out and say hello and offer a gentle virtual hug, there’s lots to go around.
