Dear all, I hope everyone is managing ok during this difficult situation.
It's been a while since I posted. But to update my wife has been through chemotherapy (carboplatin and etoposide) with the aim to control her cancer as unfortunately it was not operable. But alas the following CT scan showed it had not worked and the hospital did not want to continue with anymore and pointed us to palliative care.
We decided to have a second opinion at a hospital in Portugal (where my wife comes from) called champalimaud and they have put her back on chemotherapy again. This time topotecan. She is on her 2nd cycle and following the 3rd they will scan again to check if it is helping.
I would be interested to know if anyone has had experience of topotecan and side effects this treatment caused.
Many thanks for any help
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your wife. I have no experience of topotecan, but just wanted to say that I think some of the continental consultants have some very advanced ideas. My own husband was treated here by an Italian consultant who had some very new ideas. My husband was only the second person in our hospital to have laser treatment on his throat for cancer. (I think its common place now) The consultant also brought different gadgets with him to help heal the throat. At the time(13 years ago) it was scary but interesting. We also figured if we could help anyone else by trying new techniques we would.
All the very best.
