Endometriosis hyperplasia

Hi ladies, Ive been bleeding for 6 weeks continuously but wasn't too concerned as Ive reached menopause age and just put it down to that. A couple of days ago a go I ended up in A & E with severe abdominal and pelvic pain. I could honestly say it was like child birth contractions. The only thing that worked slightly was morphine for pain.

I was looked at thoroughly and a endometrial biopsy was taken. A ultrasound scan was also performed.  I'm left quite confused and shaken as I didn't even think much of the whole bleeding  scenario but was told after the scan that my uterus lining is very thick 17mm. The biopsy will confirm if I have endometriosis hyperplasia and if it is cancerous.  That if it is hysterectomy would.be the only treatment.  I also got referred for a hysterectomy because she thinks I may also have a polyp.

I couldn't ask all the questions that I have now as it was quite a lot of information to take in.

1. How common is it for endometriosis hyperplasia to be present with a 17mm thickness and how common would cancer be present. Also if cancer isn't present would I still need a hysterectomy as the chances of going that way are high.

The results won't be back for 3 to 4 weeks, so it seems quite a wee while to be anxious and in pain. Meanwhile Im taking tranexanim acid and northestrone to control the bleeding and diclofenac for the pain, although they're only taking the edge away. Sorry for a long paragraph.  X

Sorry hysteroscopy not hysterectomy for the polyp

  • Hi Umzi,

Sorry you find yourself here, but you will certainly get support from the ladies.

I can understand how you thought the bleeding was the menopause. I well remember such times!! I never had HRT and decided to let nature do its own thing, so I never knew when I would bleed, how long for, heavy or not!! I know they don't seem to like a thick lining, but mine was normal, and I still had cancer, so make of that what you will!

If you do need a hysterectomy, modern medicine has some wonderful techniques. I had keyhole surgery, with 3 tiny cuts, and recovered quickly. And I can honestly say that my tonsil operation in my 20's was more painful. (now in 70's) Today's nurses were far more compassionate, too.

    Good luck  xxx

Thanks for the information Anny. I am having quite a bit of pain and passed quite a large clot yesterday.  I thought the pain would ease out a bit after, unfortunately its worse sometimes and gets a bit better at other. I am taking diclofenac,  paracetamol etc. Can someone pls go over their waiting time for diagnosis and treatment. It seems to be quite difficult pain wise and mentally until treatment starts . X Umzi

  • Hi Umzi,

The site seems very quiet during this lock down. I was hoping someone could give you more information. I only had 2 small bleeds, and no pain. It was only because I have it ingrained in me to look for unexplained bleeding that I went to the doctors at all. (I had 2 miscarriages, and threatened to miscarry my eldest.) If you are in so much pain I wonder if your doctor could hurry things along? As for the mental side of it all, I coped by keeping busy, and trying to forget it .(not easy) Once I knew I had to have an operation I cleaned bits of the house I knew I wouldn't be able to do afterwards (no bending, or reaching for a while). I also made some freezer meals to save me cooking.  xxxx

    Hi Umzi

I was diagnosed in November 2019 and my op was December, I think there are deadlines that have to be met and I was just inside these.

I'm 52 and I had been a few times to my doctor about bleeding but was told it was menopause. In the end it was agreed that I go for tests to "put my mind at rest".  I'd also had aches and pains and felt tired, but had put this down to an active life.

If I can help with any other info please let me know.

    Take care

Sorry I didn't say how long my biopsy results took from hysteroscopy, it was 2 weeks, although it may now take longer due to corona virus.
