I had awful side effects after cycle 4. The oncologist reduced the dose of one of the chemo medications as well as lowering the dose of one of the anti sickness medications but increasing the number of days to take it. After effects of cycle 5 easier to deal with.
Next Wednesday I was meant to be having cycle 6, final one. I was building myself up to having a bad 10 days.
I had my oncology consultation yesterday ~Thursday ~on the phone. And she has cancelled cycle 6. She said she was aiming to get me through 4 cycles and then review the side effects. She feels that the chemotherapy has done its job and does not want me getting any worse.
So, no more chemotherapy . Another telephone consultation in 4 weeks to decide what to do about radiotherapy. It may be delayed depending on the state we are in with coronavirus, but it will happen.
I was so happy yesterday. I slept better last night. Just waiting again for the next installment. Can't really celebrate as am in the shielding group!!! Couldn't even get a takeaway and all we had was eggs!!!
Hi Nina, I'm so pleased for you that you don't need to go through another chemo session. I've only had 2 sessions with the next one booked for next Thursday. I've been very lucky so far with few side effects. I hope I'm still lucky as the chemo appears to be working and I want to have as many as I can tolerate although my consultant has indicated I may only have 4.
Have a lovely weekend and I hope you can get out into the garden or at least get near an open window to get some sun.
Love Nannasuki xx
Thank you Nannasuki.
Having very lazy day. Hubby is working 9am to 8pm most days, often going back after tea. Thankfully he's not working over the weekend so I've tried to keep very quiet so he can sleep in.
Sadly he has to go and do the shopping for us and our eldest later. Eldest just been told she needs to be in shielding group due to rare syndrome. Although she lives in supported living the workers have been reluctant to do her shopping for her. We suspected she was going to be in the shielding group at some point so quite cross with the company.
My side effects weren't, in my head, that bad. Consultant felt differently. She was most worried about the numbness and pins and needles in my hands. I can still use my hands for most things although putting my contact lenses in and out was becoming a bit difficult!!!
Hi Nina
I am experiencing some numbness in my finger ends which comes and goes. I try to do lots of hand exercises which helps. It doesn't stop me doing things and I can still feel. Hope it doesn't get worse or I suppose I should mention it next time I speak to my consultant.
I hope your daughter gets the help she needs.
Love Nannasuki x
I was starting to get pins and needles in my hands which I think was the biggest concern. The neuropathy is something that concerns them as it doesn't always resolve itself appropriately. Lowering the dose was the first option but it didn't improve. I think it's different according to the grade of the cancer. One more cycle was not worth it in my case. 4 cycles was what they were aiming for.
The pain in my bones was getting worse too. And another cycle would have meant more injections to boost my immunity ~and those have their own set of side effects!!!
