Hello, hope you’re all well.
My mums results, unfortunately did confirm cancer. She had a total hysterectomy and now the cancer has come back: recurrence in the pelvis/vulva, as well as spread to lymph nodes in the chest and lungs. She is in a lot of pain, down below. The GP issued codeine but it is not helping, she is struggling even more when having to use the bathroom. What can I do? Her consent chemotherapy appointment is not till 9th September. (And that isn’t the date to start the chemotherapy). I have been given a macmillan support number but they are only open on Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.
Hi HKI
I am sorry to hear that Mum has had a recurrence and is in so much pain.
Do not wait until the chemo consents appointment to get support for this. She needs support now.
I suggest giving NHS111 a call today (as it is the weekend and GP will be closed) and they will be able to tell you where to go for pain relief. They may get a doctor to call you back and sort a prescription or they may advise going to an urgent treatment centre. They may send someone out to her. Explain that the GP has given codeine and it is not enough, say that she is struggling with the toilet and is in a lot of pain down below. They should be able to give additional pain relief to last until she sees the consultant.
If you wanted to talk it through first you could always give the Macmillan Support Line a call and speak to a nurse. They are there from 8am-8pm 7 days a week.
I am sorry that Mum is in such pain and hope that she can get it sorted today.
Jane
