Hello ladies,

I do hope that you are all keeping as well as possible, during this Corona virus.

My Oncologist rang me last night to tell me that my cancer is 6mm growth on the top left hand side of my stomach,& that there is a very small spot on the lung. Apparently they think that the 6mm growth was there when I finished chemo in 2016,but maybe this was slightly less in size. This is much better news than I had been given by the Colorectal Prof. as he said that I had quite a lot on the omentum. I have been told that it is my choice whether to have regular blood tests and scans in other words, keep an eye on the situation,or zap it with chemo, or immunotherapy. Obviously nothing will be done at present due to the current situation, which is what I expected really. The Onc. did explain all to me though which was good as I really do like to know everything.

So I am trying now to be positive,& I have been given her secretary's tel.no.should I get any symptoms etc. & the Onc. will call me. I will also get a letter with a date for a further telephone consultation which will be in 6-8 weeks.

At least I have time to make a decision on which route to take.

Stay safe lovely ladies. Georgette xx

  • Hi Georgette, although any recurrence is not the best  you do have treatment options and hopefully you will be NED . I was upset to read that you felt that you had been written off, I hope you stay positive and I wish you all the best. Stay safe Dawn xx

  • Hi georgette it doesn't sound as bad as expected and you have been given some breathing space. It seems odd that they think the 6 mm growth was there in 2016 have they reviewed the scans? If that is the case it must be very slow growing to only have reached such a small size in 4 years which is also encouraging. So you have a few weeks to mull things over but in the meantime hope you can manage to put it to the back of your mind and enjoy the lovely weather whilst it lasts.

  • Hi,

I felt so relieved after the Consultation, but realise that I will have to have treatment at some stage. It is quite strange about the 6mm growth, but I just wonder if it may have become slightly active & yes the scans have been reviewed & my new Oncologist has had a meeting with the original Onc. My aim is to keep busy, and enjoy the garden and a walk each day for the moment.

Once i know more I will let you know.

Take care, keep well & enjoy the weather to.

    xx

  • Thank you for your reply, I was pleased that I was given treatment options, because at least you feel you have a chance.

My new Oncologist did question me regarding the diagnosis from the Colorectal Consultant, & I was pleased she did really. Fortunately my husband was with me so what he said could be verified.

Anyway moving on I will look at what has been offered and talk to my Oncologist in the next few weeks.

Stay safe & enjoy this good weather.xx

  • I think cancer is like that doesn't  grow all the time. My enlarged paraortic lymph node was picked up on a scan in 2018 (unbeknown to me) it was decided to wait until the next 6 monthly scan to see if it had changed and it hadnt. However the next scan it was on the move so action was decided. I was a bit peeved I had not been party to this information but on the other hand on reflection it did save me a lot of anxiety not knowing.

  • It is interesting though, because I suppose in our heads we are thinking that it is on the move most of the time as it were.

I agree in some ways it would be better to know what is going all the time, but as you pointed out it did save you the anxiety.

    Always lovely to chat.

    Take care x

  • It does create a bit of distrust as well to be told scans are ok when there are some doubts. Although the one before I was called back said 'stable' which was wording she hadn't used before, I did think it a little odd. I'm glad you're keeping covid free. My son has got it he lives away. Typical man he doesn't even possess a thermometer. He's pretty rough fortunately he has a flat mate so not on his own but I expect by now he's got it as well!
