Hi everyone. I had early stage contained endometrial cancer last year. I had a full hysterectomy in October, no further treatment required. I was put on 3 monthly check ups, as I was told it would reappear in the vaginal area if it recurred. I had one check up, but this next one was cancelled due to coronovirus. This has left me terrified about not being checked. Now the next one  at the end of June is also a telephone appointment. I am now back where I was last year, in total fear. I keep thinking what if it has returned, no one is checking, and this might stop it being caught early. I'm a total wreck.

  • Hi Roberta60,

I’m the same as you I had my operation on the 30th December due for my first check up in April !!! I haven’t heard anything & I’m assuming it’s cancelled. I’m like you I’m so worried that these check ups are being cancelled. So many of patients are sadly going to be affected because of this virus. I really feel for patients having their treatments cancelled as well it’s awful !!! I’m not sure what the answer is xxx but I know exactly how you feel x

  • Hi Both of you,

I totally understand how you both feel.

Nearly 3 years ago I had a hysterectomy, had 2 check ups, then was told I was on a patient led system where I have no more check ups, but can get an appointment at the clinic for any problems. At first I felt as if my safety blanket had gone, but I have gradually got used to it, and now rarely think about it!! I was grade 2 stage 1A, so I suppose was deemed OK!!!  I can't think they would leave you in limbo if there was any risk. Just try to think that other people might be in more need of their help just now!  xxxx

  • I understand your concerns about missing checkups. If endo cancers do recurr over half  do so in the vaginal vault hence the checkups. If they do then Bracytherapy is very successful in treating this. Most early low grade cancers do not recur they are very slow growing and dont reappear over night. If it did then there would be some signs like a discharge etc and if you contacted your team. I had some signs after a year which turned out to be granulation which cleared up on its own. With the current covid19 climate you are safer staying away from hospital. Things will get back to normal and checkups will resume. Try not to worry too much.

Just a wee ask too those ladies few years down line am on the panicking stage all time now during treatment was just so tunnel vision on getting through it now every normal middle age ache pain am panicking never was like that just wondering how use all delt with it and is this the norm under the circumstances of our crazy world at moment thanks  karen xx

  • Hi  and . I never experienced what we are going though at the moment its very scary and crazy too. So many cancer patients stuck as treatments are delayed and operations cancelled, scans and check ups. I am facing this situation with an other condition that's reared its head up I should be seeing the consultant early March this now changed to September. Although I am at least getting medication from my GP to ease it, I still feel major limbo so I can understand the frustration, the fear that your having on top of worries about the corona virus. With the lockdown its reduced the chances of the spread of the virus but it doesn't take away the worry that you maybe getting worse, a reaccurrance has appeared or your operation cancelled, not being checked I think there is lots here in various of the above situation so we totally understand and hope that they get the virus under control soon so we can all go back to our normal check ups operations and other treatments. Its the uncertainty that's the worse and yes its very worrying

I'm in the same boat too! My check up was scheduled for march, a month later than it should have been and I got a call postponing it until tomorrow. I was half expecting a call again to cancel it as I've had one telephone consultation today on a different matter with another appointment made for July but that again is down as a telephone consultation due to the virus. I may still hear today that tomorrows check is postponed as my hospital does change things at the last minute but I'm a bit hesitant in using public transport to get to the hospital and having to set off very early because it's been cut back so much. Whilst I want the check the current situation is putting me off especially as London has the highest figures at the moment but I'm just hoping once the journey is made they don't turn round and say sorry, appointments are cancelled due to virus. It's a very strange situation at the moment indeed and it's worrying too. I'll let you know how I get on!. Keep strong girls. Love lamb.xx

Well, there you go. I've just had a message screech in at the end of clinic telling me my appointment tomorrow is now cancelled and will be a phone consultation instead anytime between 8 and 5. Still at least I don't have to travel on public transport now so that's one worry out of the way! Lamb.xx

  • Hi Robbo,

Its no wonder you are worrying about every ache or pain. Just as you are getting over one scare, another one comes along! At least I've had time to get over the cancer scare, enough to think,'I've got through cancer, I'll get through this!!!' Probably kidding myself, but I think if you have had one brush with your immortality it makes you more resilient somehow.

I cope by trying to keep myself busy, which is difficult at the moment!! During the very wet winter I decorated two bedrooms, so that's done! Can't buy any garden plants as the shops are shut. Can't even buy any wool on line as all the online shops are too busy!! At least we can walk in the nearby countryside, and look at the signs of spring!!! That cheers me up.  xxxx
