Hysterescopy results

Hi ladies

This is my first post - I have been reading the forums but not posted yet.

in October I had a period which started and didn’t seem to stop - after going to the docs I was given Provera three times a day and told to go back in a month to start HRT - I wasn’t really happy with this and spoke to another doctor at my surgery who said she would send me for a ultra sound scan and an internal scan which I had eight days later they found I had three fibroids and a polyp but my lining was 22 cm and she said she would scan again in six weeks.

That weekend I ended up in a and e as I was feeling so exhausted and rough and saw a gynae registrar who said they would fast track to see consultant gynae for a hysterescopy.  This was done on 28th November and he took four biopsies - didn’t seem particularly worried and suggested I have a coil fitted there and then which I did.

he warned me that they take a while to start working and that it can normally take four or five months for them to settle in and to persevere - he said the results would be posted to me in four weeks - I said oh that’s Christmas - to which he replied “six then”!

the bleeding has slowed down significantly but I’m still spotting every day (but he said to expect this).

i haven’t received any results yet at all and this week is the sixth week and I’m getting increasingly agitated and am finding it hard waiting - I’ve managed to keep a brave face on for my family - I have a daughter whose 15

four years ago I lost my 20 year old son in a rtc and my daughter is so scared she is going to lose her mum too so I have had to keep going like I’m fine even though inside I’m a quivering wreck!

everytime the postman comes I feel nervous - I keep checking the phone for missed calls and now I’m into the sixth week I am beginning to really start to worry

Any advice would be good - I did contemplate ringing the gynae secretary but If I’m absolutely honest I was frightened too and know how busy they are and with Christmas and new year i didn’t want to be a nuisance.

my OH is great but he’s going away to France on Monday 13th and I’m terrified I’ll get a letter when he’s away!

i would hope that if any results were not good they would have posted me a follow up appointment or contacted me by now?

the Gynae consultant gave me a letter to hand to my doctor saying he had seen no masses or nothing abnormal and that my follow up should be via GP

he also said if the coil doesn’t work then get re referrred to him in six months for womb ablation and then if that didn’t work a hysterectomy but said this was way down the line - and the first line of treatment from the “drop down menu” was a coil.

any advice would be appreciated

Thank you xxx

  • Hi Tracey,

Sorry you find yourself here.. I don't know much about the younger woman's end of matters, lots of other folks on here do!! I felt I just had to say things are probably delayed with Christmas and New Year. I wouldn't tell your 15 year old in detail, but I think it best to warn them of potential problems. I've met a lot of women who don't seem to regard abnormal bleeding as a potential problem!! Fore warned is fore armed.

Hopefully they will check you out and you will be fine. Waiting for results is the pits. I found the best thing was to keep myself busy

    All the best xxxxxx.

  • Hi Tracey1969

As NannyAnny says the waiting is by far the hardest thing to deal with.

I’m sure Christmas will have caused a delay and I am in a similar situation waiting for five weeks now. It’s torture.

Don’t worry about people being busy! Be proactive and make that call to give them a prod. It’s their job to take care of you and as you already know from your GP sometimes they don’t do it well enough.

Here’s hoping you will get good news soon xxx

Thanks - I’m going to ring tomorrow I think - I have to pay the remainder of my holiday next  Sunday for a holiday we had planned to Barbados in April and we are worried that if we pay it without the results (even though we have holiday insurance) we may have to fight to get the money back should I need any treatment.

I hope you get your results back soon too and they are ok.

This last few months has taken its toll on me if I’m honest - it’s knocked the stuffing out of me completely and I’ve been frightened not so much for me but for my family - they have been through enough without me to worry about!

  • Hi Tracey1967

well you’ve come to the right place for empathy and understanding. Keep posting - it’s helpful to read others comments but when you need support, have a moan, share good news or just say how awful you’re feeling someone on the forum is feeling the same.

    A problem shared ....,,,, xxx

  • Hey there Tracey,

Welcome to your first posting on the forum!

If your coil was fitted on the 28th of November then ideally you should have stopped spotting by now. I'm guessing your womb lining was 22mm rather than 22cm, because 22cm is ginormous! lol. It might be worth either speaking to your GP, or chasing up the gynae team about your spotting and asking if it might be worth getting either some tranexamic acid or more oral progesterone. The tranexamic acid helps you clot, if something inside hasn't healed either from lining release or biopsy. While the progesterone is the same drug that's on the coil, so it just gives it a boost to fully clear out your lining and then the bleeding will fully stop.

The old adage of 'no news is good news' just isn't true when it comes to the medical profession and endometrial issues. Usually, anything found in the endometrium is slow developing, so there's absolutely no need to rush anything. So again, I'd def call and chase your results. Chances are they will tell you absolutely nothing over the phone results wise, but they can at least tell you where you are in the process. So are results: back, looked at, letter dictated, letter typed, etc.

Fingers crossed you get some answers soon!

    Hi Lass

update - rang this morning and spoke to secretary who was absolutely lovely she rang me back letter was dictated and typed and she has read it over the phone

All biopsies clear - thank goodness.

i am seeing the practice nurse Wednesday for the six week check on the coil - do you think it would be worth me seeing the doctor at some point so I can discuss this spotting ? As I am still spotting bright red blood every day?

  • Hi Tracey1967

fantastic news I’m so pleased for you xxx

  • Hey Tracey,

That's FABULOUS news for you, I'm so pleased it's all clear for you!

Regarding the coil check, you know you can do that yourself?

And yes, I'd probably see the doctor you have faith in and discuss it. I needed some progesterone tablets to shift everything from within me, and lots of women do. I also needed the tranexamic acid after each biopsy to help stop bleeding too. So def worth a chat and see what the doctor thinks is best for you, tablet a, tablet b, nothing, something else. Lol.

But again, yay on the results!

Good luck with getting that bleeding stopped!

    Thanks xxx

This forum is a great thing for people - and it really does help to talk when sometimes you can’t tell your nearest and dearest how you really feel -

I wish you all well on your journeys and will let you know how I get on with the bleeding! I’ve learnt more from you today Lass than my own doctor !!!!
