Hello. This is my first time posting. I am 52 and was diagnosed with womb cancer mid November, which was a big shock. I've had a hysterectomy two weeks ago and will be having more treatment ina few weeks as my cancer was Stage 1A Grade 3. Can I ask how any of you found the very sudden onset of surgical menopause? I'm not sleeping, having hot flushes day and night, but the worst symptom is a sore, burning vulva area. I had problems with this 4 years ago and at the time it was diagnosed as dermatitis. This may not be the case now, it may be vaginal atrophy, due to lack of oestrogen, have already ruled out thrush. While I'm waiting for my next appointment, does anyone have recommendations of how to deal with this? Been told I can't have hrt, due to cancer, but probably this is what would sort all of these things out.
Thank you for reading my very long post
Can your GP advise? For dryness issues, I have been prescribed some stuff to wash with and a kind of moisturiser. Or maybe your CNS can advise? I believe there are non-HRT things you can take to help with flushes and sweating.
Also I suggest keep a food diary for a few days to see if anything correlates with hot flushes. I find my hot flushes are more frequent after certain foods like puddings and biscuits.
Thank you for your reply. My GP said it was thrush as I'd been on antibiotics to help my hysterectomy surgery wounds heal. I think he wanted to get rid of me quickly! This is definitely not thrush.
Can I ask what it is you were prescribed ?
thanks
Hi, I was prescribed Dermol 500 to wash with, and Hydromol Cream to moisturize with.
I know some of the other forum members have had prescriptions to help with hot flushes (I didn't) so if you post a question specifically about that hopefully they will see it and have some suggestions for you.
Hi Golden retriever
Sorry you are suffering but so glad you raised this as I am having the same problem along with small swollen lymph nodes.
I noticed itching and two tiny lumps either side of the groin two weeks after surgery. Called my CSN who suggested it was due to overheating. Recently have a red rash and two more little lumps.
This isn’t going away so I’m going to try to get an emergency appointment with my GP tomorrow and suggest you do the same.
please let me know if you find out what it is xx
Hi. Thanks again for replying. I already use Dermol, as I had dermatitis a few years ago. I will have a look at the Hydromol cream.
Have started to use Yes VM vaginal moisturiser, as suggested by hospital, for vaginal atrophy, will see how it goes after a few days. Fingers crossed.
Hi
Thanks for your reply. I am hoping to get an appointment or advice from the hospital.
Fingers crossed that you get an appointment tomorrow.
Hi Golden retriever
can I ask if you resolved the problem? I developed redness and swelling in the groin area two weeks after hysterectomy in December
Ive had two treatments for thrush from two different GPs at my surgery; cream then one oral capsule.
Neither have worked and I’m still red and swollen. I’ve never had thrush so not sure if that’s what it is.
Did you manage to solve your problem?
Hi
In the end I went to see a private dermatologist and she prescribed a steroid cream called Lotriderm and washing and moisturising with Epaderm. Although not cured, I'm feeling less sore. I had seen this lady before and waited ages for an appointment.
I was due to start chemo last Thursday but had to postpone as am now having painful teeth. Not sure why? Probably menopause related again. Anyway, had two out and may need another one before I start chemo.
Hope you find something that helps
Thanks Golden retriever
Did she give you any indication of the cause of the problem or did she think it was menopause related? I’ve never experienced anything like this even when I went through menopause the first time about 15 years ago.
I’m sorry to hear about your teeth problems. I had a check up prior to treatment starting after seeing a post on here recommending it ...(thank you to whoever mentioned that).
You must feel frustrated about the delay in treatment? I know I was when I was told they didn’t do the planned lymphodectomy with the hysterectomy. Although I’m sure you’d rather not have chemo, any delay only adds to the high levels of anxiety we already suffer from doesn’t it?
I wonder if the shock of diagnosis and the trauma of treatment lowers our immunity, causing any ‘weak areas’ to come to the fore.
I am waiting for results of the second op for the next step and am hoping it’s not chemo or even RT but the way my luck is going I don’t hold out much hope!!
Best wishes to you xxx
