I'm about to leave for first chemotherapy session. Scared does not begin to explain what I'm feeling

  • Sending hugs .  I know I would be the same.  I hope it goes well.

    Lesley xx

  • Some more hugs, Nina. Take it easy, and look after yourself xxxxx

  • Hugs from me too, . I will never forget how scared I was when I had chemo this time 3yrs ago.  A friend of mine used to be a chemo nurse and she encouraged me when she said that most people tolerate chemo better than they think they will. It is tough, there's no denying it, but it is doable. Your team will look after you. x

Hi nina, I hope everything went ok for you yesterday and it wasn't as scary as you thought it was going to be. Love and prayers. Lamb.xx

  • As predicted there was some difficulty finding a vein. The only one was in a bit of an awkward place and I had to keep my hand/wrist in one position or I set the beeper off!!!! I did try but.....

Hubby stayed for about an hour and managed not to fall asleep. A friend came for the rest of the morning. Another friend came after lunch for an hour.

I had extra anti hystamine before anything else as they were concerned about all the allergies. I did have slight itching but it didn't last.

It was a long day. Started at 9.30 and finally left the ward at 4.30. Friend met me in car park 4.45 and took me for a hot chocolate at Costa. Usually suffer with sensitivity to milk and chocolate but with all the piriton etc I took advantage and it was yummy and none of usual after effects.

We did most of our Christmas shopping yesterday. Bit later than intended due to being delayed by toilet problems. Reminder, take laxative morning after chemo.

Total exhausted after shopping. Couldn't relax at first but finally calmed after a couple of hours.

Slept OK until about 6. Now feeling very restless. Bones ache but think that's due to shopping more than anything. So quiet day today after a warm relaxing bath. Maybe some light housework as it's a mess. Hubby does his best.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Hi Nina,

    That's one down! Well done.

Dare I say, I think it did my husband good to see what running a house was like. One day, after washing up, hanging washing out, ironing, hovering, etc  he said 'I haven't stopped today'. They live in a different world!!   xxxxxx

  • Not a good night. Paracetamol doesn't really do much for the aching body, and this is only one treatment.

    Any suggestions welcomed!!!

  • Hi Nina,

Are you on steroids? My daughter couldn't sleep whilst on them, and my husband was DREADFUL on them. He could have flown to the moon and back no bother!!!

She was tired when she came off them after a couple of days, and more 'normal'. From what I've seen it gets better.  xxxxx
