Hi everyone
I'm new to this forum and to forums in general so please excuse if I have posted wrongly!
I'm 54yrs old and due to a post menopausal bleed ,I've been fast tracked from ultrasounds to hysteroscopy and biopsy as my womb is 11mm .
My medical record is complex -ME/CFS , Fibromyalgia, Meningitis survivor and long term gynaecology "season ticket holder" due to Endometriosis. My last hysteroscopy was in 2014 ,under general anesthesia ( for same issue hyperplasia plus a large mass) but all turned out fine - no mass to be seen and biopsy clear. This feels like a repeat of what happened last time , except I was still having periods then and was investigated more for the endometriosis pain after coming off long term Depo Provers jabs which controlled my periods.
My biopsies were absolutely agonising and I was barely able to transfer into my wheelchair after as my legs were shaking so much. The note in patient booklet said there would be a small amount of bleeding and perhaps some mild cramping afterwards but to take paracetamol.Therr was only a little bleeding for 48 hrs but the pain is still really bad - feels exactly like pain I have with Endometriosis plus very weird contractions ,almost popping feelings, like butterflies .Not wind ,but a very odd feeling.
Can anyone advise what I should do ? It's very difficult to get aG appointment at short notice unless it's an emergency and I don't want to feel foolish and go if it isn't .
Has anyone else had prolonged pain after hysteroscopy ?
I'd be so grateful if someone could put my mind at rest ... or advise whether I should try get a GP appointment before the weekend comes.
Hi Lass,
Gosh ,I didn't expect such a quick reply ,thanks !
No,the Gynaecologist didn't insert a Mirena ,just took biopsies . I was so taken aback by the agony of pain ,which somehow thought would be like a smear that I didn't think to ask what amount of after pain was expected.
Lol, yes, there's always a few folks floating around here and there to say hi.
So to back up a step, welcome to the forum! Lol. Sorry I didn't say before, I was doing 100 things at once and forgot my manners! So yes, you're in the right place and you've not done anything wrong.
Sounds like your Gynae was a bit shit, if you excuse my language. I've lost count of the number of hysteroscopies I've had, and only one of them has hurt more than a smear - and that was because of something else entirely.
There are no nerves in your endometrial lining, so taking a sample of it shouldn't be painful. You should just get a weird prodding sensation, coupled with a sort of period cramp type pain max. The bleeding should stop within a few days, 5 max, and the same with the period cramps. Especially if you've not had a coil implanted and it was biopsies only.
If you're still cramping, I'd call your GP tomorrow morning and ask for an on the day appointment. Even if the receptionist says they are all gone, just tell them why you want one and say you are concerned. Best to discuss it with a doctor I think, because 10 days is too long for you to be having these pains from my experience.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Lass

Thanks so much for your lovely welcome and advice. I will definitely phone for an appointment tomorrow as they do have emergency ones kept aside always.
Will keep you posted and thanks again.

Hi Lass,
Just a quick update about my GP appointment this afternoon. Dr had a good check and I'd also taken along urine sample to be checked. As I have no other signs other than the ongoing pain he seemed to think the biopsy had just triggered some general pelvic inflammation and told me to take my usual dihydrocodeine plus gave me some Buscospan for the cramping. He reckons it will settle down soon but if it worsens or I get new symptoms to come back.
As I'm allergic or can't tolerate most pain meds ,my options are very limited so I'm continuing Turmeric capsules and my usual got water bottles, heat pads.
I'm reassured for the meantime that there's not an infection from the biopsy so it's just the waiting game for the results now .Going to try to occupy myself with Christmas card writing and seeing friends to take my mind off it !
Thanks again for your replies and welcome .
Xx Pepita
