I am 48 and post menopause with no problems but have had a couple of tiny amounts of blood upon wiping after sex.
i was for a smear end June mentioned to nurse who wasn’t at all bothered, the gp also had a look at cervix and said all looked fine. Smear came back normal. But I went back to gp and she did little examination and said all looked normal and not to worry but I do ! Took swabs all cane back fine. Again she was not concerned but I asked for a referral to gynaecologist which she has done but the routine time is 30 to 34 weeks. Should I go back to gp again or am I just a total worrier - looking for reassurance here thanks
Any post menopausal bleeding should be referred under the 2 week referral. I had a similar problem back in January with PMB and was fobbed off, further PMB in April and my GP referred me but not under the 2 week referral..I kicked up a bit of a fuss and was eventually referred under the 2 week fast track. My scan showed a slightly thickened womb lining, I had a biopsy which found a polyp which was removed and sent for biopsy which came back benign but to make sure nothing further was hiding I went for a hysteroscopy as an outpatient which resulted in 3 further polyps being found which couldn’t be removed as an outpatient so I had them removed under a GA at the beginning of June, and thankfully all were benign and I’ve been discharged.
If I was in your position I’d be asking for a 2 week fast track as per NICE guidelines. Hopefully it will be nothing untoward but don’t get robbed off x
Thank you for replying.
i will try to get an appt again at gp for start if next week if they don’t listen I could maybe go private.
i am a bit of a worrier.
The answer to your question Scared2 is no your not causing a scene, any post menopause bleeding should be checked out and in most cases under the two week refferal scheme. I am now 40 but was diagnosed with womb cancer when I was 37 near my 38 birthday and I had a smear test done and it came back clear. However the nurse did comment on that my cervix looked inflamed. My best advice is if in doubt check it out, and you have done this, perhaps having a word with your GP again to get you checked under the two week referral on the bases of having some bleeding, if everything is clear then great, but I find until you have a confirmed answer to the cause it does make you worry about it more, I totally agree with the other ladies and I am so sorry to hear of your worries and I hope you get answers very soon.
Thank you all for your kind words.
although neither the nurse, then the female gp who did the smear and had a good look as my cervix sits in s queer place we’re concerned and then when I went back and the next female go did swabs and she said all looked fine to her and smear and swabs fine, I just am a little concerned, probably just because I am an anxious person.
Thank you
i am going to phone tomorrow and try and go private just for my piece of mind
