When do you go on the waiting list for a hysterectomy? Is it as soon as you are told that you have cancer and a hysterectomy is suggested? Or is it after your first follow up appointment where they discuss your plan? I was diagnosed with Grade 1 womb cancer on the 12/5 and my follow up appointment is 3/6.
I was fortunate to get my MRI and chest X ray results 3 days afterwards - my CNS phoned me with an appointment with my consultant for immediately after the MDT met and it was at that appointment that I met my consultant/surgeon and he explained to me that I’d be offered a hysterectomy. A couple of weeks after that I had my pre op assessment, and then a few weeks after that I was given my op date.
Hi Hayley
I had mine 4 weeks after going to hospital with heavy bleeding.
I had an ultrasound and was phoned the next day as something was found. I had the biopsies done a couple of days later. CT scan was done within a week. I had my diagnosis by phone within a week. I saw the consultant for the first time on a Friday pm and was sent straight away for my pre op checks. I had the surgery on the Monday. (4 weeks after first symptom)
There can be variation between hospitals and how busy they are.
Jane
I was told my surgery date the same day as I got my official diagnosis. I had already had an MRI as the consultant requested one when I had my hysteroscopy, she preempted the diagnosis. I was lucky only two weeks wait from diagnosis to hysterectomy. Hope you’re not waiting too long.
My consultant called to say the biopsy results were in and could I meet her the following day to discuss the findings. I then had an MRI a week later and hysterectomy 2.5 weeks after that. They tried to do the hysterectomy a week earlier, but had staffing issues, so couldn't. As Jane said, hospitals can vary dependiing on what area you are in and their backlog.
Hi
I am in Scotland and, sadly, that sounds about right for this area.I initially had to wait 4 weeks on initial scan and biopsy beginning December. After two biopsy attempts I had to have it under GA middle February. Eventually had hysterectomy on 24th March! It's really really terrible here, the waiting really affected me mentally. I hope you can get seen soon
