Hi

Have just been diagnosed with clear cell endometrial cancer. I have to have surgery then possible radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

I haven't googled this as don't want to go through all that is our there. The surgeon did tell me it is an aggressive cancer grade one.

Has anyone else gone through this type of cancer?

I am naturally devastated and very scared. I am 72 with a lovely family

  • I was also diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 aggressive in Nov 2023

Hysterectomy in Dec followed by chemo in Feb then internal radiotherapy in June.

Now on 4 mthly checks and everything seems fine so although it can be overwhelming at first there is a light at the end of the tunnel

    Take care

  • Hi Charliebear70

I went through a similar diagnosis in 2022. Mine was an aggressive grade 3 type and a stage 1.

I am doing ok. My surgery was nearly 4 years ago. I am around 3 1/2 years post treatment.

Although treatment was tough at times and did seem to last forever- in the grand scheme of things it was done in around 7 months.

The most common first line treatment for any endometrial cancer (where it is medically possible) is a hysterectomy. The difference with a higher grade cancer is that they do tend to offer some follow up treatment at an earlier stage- the purpose for it is to mop up any potential stray cells that may have been left behind.

If there is anything you want to ask about, please do so. But in my experience, despite being higher grade- my cancer was very treatable and I am doing ok now.

Having a diagnosis can be a scary time and I remember things feeling overwhelming to begin with. We do have the Support Line available from 8am-8pm everyday, if you feel like talking things through would help.

I wish you well with your treatment and we are here if you need us.

  • Thank you Jane for your positive reply .It is helpful to know that you are now feeling well. I was only told this morning the details.

I am hoping to get the surgery done soon. But as yet, haven't been given a date.

Seems to be the radiotherapy is going to be before or along with the chemotherapy.

But I am going to concentrate on the surgery first x

  • Hopefully you won't have to wait too long. I had my pre op done on the Friday and surgery was on the Monday- exactly a month after I had the first symptom. There can be a variation between hospitals though.

When I had my treatment it seemed that they normally did the chemo and then the external radiotherapy afterwards however I have noticed on here more recently that some hospitals are doing it the other way round. Some ladies have also had a couple of doses of cisplatin along with the radiotherapy.

The most common chemo seems to still be paclitaxel and carboplatin- 4-6 cycles.

It can be a shock to be told that you need more extensive treatment and my advice is to focus on one thing at the time. So surgery first. Mine was done via key hole and was pretty straightforward. I had little pain, in hospital one night and recovered well. I found the time you are in now, the hardest as you know what may happen but you don't yet know what, where and when. Once I had the date for surgery I felt much better as I was doing something active to deal with the cancer.

    Take care

  • I do feel that once I get a date and get on with it, then I will feel better. To be honest I am having a couple of large glasses of wine in the evening, which I need to cut down but it does help me relax.

Morning, when I wake is the worst time for me. Everything comes flooding back. Twice for a few seconds I thought it had been a bad dream!
