Awaiting results - newbie

Hello I am a 59 year old 5 years post menapause I have had no symptoms until mid December when I started with light bleeding which continued for a week. I got a doctors appointment straight away and was put on the two week pathway. I had an ultrasound on Boxing Day followed by a hydroscopy and biopsy ten days ago. The consultant identified an area of concern in the posterior wall took a biopsy and ordered an urgent MRI. I had an MRI today. I was told in my thirties because of infertility issues that I was at increased risk of cancer of the womb so wasn’t surprised although still anxious about something suspicious being found but have not heard of anyone having an MRI scheduled prior to a positive biopsy result. Has this happened to anyone? My head is in overdrive swinging from hope that it is pre cancerous to being certain that it’s cancer in an advanced state. I went through the emotional roller coaster with my late husband and am feeling really vulnerable and scared at the moment. The next couple of weeks will seem an eternity as I know from previous experience we cope better when there’s a plan but without my husband by my side I feel very alone. Thank you for reading.

  • Hi Tess

Hopefully you won’t have too long to wait for results. In case you don’t know, they will run these past the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) first, who tend to meet on a set day each week. So useful knowing if you don’t already when your MDT meet.

thinking of you, I also live alone so know how hard that can be at times.

  • Thank you so much for your reply I read on the letter sent to my GP that it would be reviewed at a MDT meeting and your reply reminded me of that so I have looked it up online and they meet on a Friday. I am always better with facts and information so it all helps me feel more in control ( even when I aren’t). Every problem and worry seems amplified when you are on your own, or it does to me but I am still adjusting to my new life. Thank you so much for your support I hope you are doing ok x

  • I was given an urgent MRI prior to cancer being found due to abnormal cells (I had to have 2 biopsies). The consultant said this was so they had as much information as possible ready for the MDT and getting the 2nd biopsy results back. I was diagnosed on 5th December with stage 1a grade 1 and had a hysterectomy Monday 5th Jan. Follow up appointment to confirm staging/grade is 13th February. Sending lots of positivity your way x

  • Thank you for replying. I feel more positive now I know asking for a scan before biopsy results isn’t uncommon. Wishing you well for your next appointment and hope you are recovering well following your hysterectomy. xx
