Hello I am a 59 year old 5 years post menapause I have had no symptoms until mid December when I started with light bleeding which continued for a week. I got a doctors appointment straight away and was put on the two week pathway. I had an ultrasound on Boxing Day followed by a hydroscopy and biopsy ten days ago. The consultant identified an area of concern in the posterior wall took a biopsy and ordered an urgent MRI. I had an MRI today. I was told in my thirties because of infertility issues that I was at increased risk of cancer of the womb so wasn’t surprised although still anxious about something suspicious being found but have not heard of anyone having an MRI scheduled prior to a positive biopsy result. Has this happened to anyone? My head is in overdrive swinging from hope that it is pre cancerous to being certain that it’s cancer in an advanced state. I went through the emotional roller coaster with my late husband and am feeling really vulnerable and scared at the moment. The next couple of weeks will seem an eternity as I know from previous experience we cope better when there’s a plan but without my husband by my side I feel very alone. Thank you for reading.
I am sorry to hear about your situation and am sure that a community champion will be along soon to reassure you with more specific guidance.
Meanwhile, I wouldn't try to second-guess the results until you have them. It may be good news and even if it isn't, you will be supported with a plan by your medical team for the next steps. We've all been there and the waiting is one of the worst things. Try to keep busy and you can always contact one of the Mc Millan Nurses online or by phone.
Sending good wishes to you at this difficult time.
Hi Tess22
I think we can all relate to how you are feeling at the moment it is so overwhelming when you have to go through all the tests and wait for the results it is a scary time. I had my MRI before I had biopsy results but it didn’t mean my cancer was advanced it was because my consultant was concerned about an area of my endometrium and wanted to get ahead in terms of time. In my case the MRI showed probable stage 1b however the biopsies came back negative. You can’t second guess what the results are going to be but you will feel better once you have all the information and a treatment plan if necessary.

Hi Tess22
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had some bleeding but you did the right thing in reporting this to your doctor and getting checked. It is normal in these circumstances to be put on the urgent pathway.
I am sorry that there is an area of concern on the endometrium. It is best for them to investigate this further to enable the best treatment.
I had my CT scan before any results came back and was told that this is not unusual and it was to try to get everything checked out asap. I did not have an MRI. Some people have an MRI, some have a CT and some are offered both.
I know that it is worrying to wait for results but I would imagine that you should hear something very soon. My biopsy results came back around a week after my procedure and my CT had already been done and the results were back,
It is natural to worry and to fear the worst but if there is any endometrial cancer present then it is normally a very treatable cancer. The testing is done to hopefully rule out any cancer.
I am sorry to hear about your husband and understand that this may bring up some distressing feelings. Do give the Support Line a call if it would help to talk things through.
I hope you do not have to wait too long but in the meantime we are here if you need us.

Thank you Jane the replies I have received have calmed me down a little. I was told after the hysteroscopy that they would wait until they had both scan and biopsy results before contacting me and currently the wait time for results of an urgent MRI is about two weeks so not likely to hear anything for at least two or three weeks which will seem an eternity. It isn’t two years yet since my husband lost his battle with cancer and I am still trying to find my way through my grief, it has stirred up a lot of memories and emotions from his diagnosis which has added to my anxiety. Thank you for your support and it helps and I feel less isolated after reaching out. Take care.
It's a vulnerable time anyway, and add in going through this before and then widowhood - yep, excruciating. But you jumped on it at the very first sign of anything, so you will get the best possible result. Whatever happens next, you did yourself proud and acted in your own best interests.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
