Hello, Happy New Year everyone
I'm 16 months post hysterectomy (no adjuvant treatment) and my recovery has been pretty straightforward apart from menopause and the gifts it keeps on giving .
Just before Christmas I was at the gym and I felt a "pop" sensation at my vaginal wall; it wasnt painful and I took it as a sign to scale back the weight I was lifting. The day after I had some very slight bleeding which didn't go on for too long. I spoke to my CNS and she said it should be ok and that any bleeding longer than three weeks would be a concern so I wasn't initially booked in to clinic. I couldn't get it out of my head so called back and I was seen this Tuesday; the consultant saw polypoid tissue/what looked like granulation at the vault so took a biopsy. I was amazed to get an appointment for an MRI last night for this morning..no time to get anxious about it at least!
Anyway, I wondered if others have had similar experiences or if this was common? I guess going from not necessarily needing an appointment to having an MRI was a bit of a leap! I am trying not to predict the future and definitely no googling (lesson learned when I was first diagnosed!). I guess it is helpful in a way to write it all down. Ultimately, I will cross bridges when I get to them.
Thanks for reading
Hi EmmH
Well done for calling back and getting the appointment to be checked.
It sounds like the consultant is being very thorough and that is a good thing. Just by looking at the granulation tissue the consultant would be unable to confirm that it was some form of scar tissue or something else going on. Taking a biopsy and then having an MRI would be the normal and expected next steps. Where there are any signs of potential recurrence then it is important to rule this out as soon as possible. It does not mean that there is a recurrence, just that they are trying to rule it out.
Hopefully your MRI and biopsy will come back to show that there is no concern but I understand that it is natural to worry about recurrence. While you are waiting for your results to come back do give the Support Line a call if it would help to talk things through.
