Debunking surgery

Hi I’ve started a new thread but I think this might be raised somewhere else

I’ve got endometrial cancer and have had a total hysterectomy however it has spread to my peritoneum and omentum

I’ve had 6x chemo which worked well but sadly it’s returned quickly so am now trying immunotherapy

the one thing that hasn’t been considered ( as far as I’m aware ) is debulking surgery

im determined to fight and I’m not ready to give up but also realistic and certainly want to do anything that will prolong my life and or improve the quality

atm my abdominal distension and pain is really compromising my life

has anyone else had expirience of this surgery or been through it

I’d be grateful for any knowledge that might help inform my questions to my consultant

  • That of course should be debulking not debunking Joy

  • I am so sorry to hear that l also have the same spread and lots of pain  just about to talk options on Friday so following with interest let's try to support each other through this nightmare

  • That would be amazing  I’ve sent my questions to the specialist nurses who will no doubt pass it on to the consultant I’ll let you know what the response is and would love to hear the outcome of your options discussion

I feel like I’ve seriously missed an opportunity if I’d had debulking after my chemo I would be in a much better place

  • Hi Scared bunny

I am sorry to hear that your chemo did not keep things at bay for longer.

There are a few ladies on here who are undergoing immunotherapy and it does seem an option where chemo has not had the desired effect.

It is worth speaking to your CNS/consultant about debulking surgery and whether or not it is an option in your case. I know that there are ladies on some of the gynaecological cancer forums on here who have had it.

From my understanding there are different types and it depends on where exactly the cancer is and whether it can surgically be removed. I think with your pain and distention it is well worth asking about. With the distention you could also ask whether the distention is in anyway caused by a build up of fluid- if this is the case then sometimes the fluid may be able to be drained.

Coming up with a list of questions is a good idea and if it would help do give the Support Line a call and they can help.

This link has some info that may help.

  • Hi Jane

thanks so much for this I am booked in to have a drain tomorrow morning but mainly because I keep asking I’m so desperate

they say my scan only shows moderate fluid which doesn’t normally need draining  However I pointed out when the recurrence was first diagnosed they almost didn’t even do a scan my abdomen was distended but still palpable They were as shocked as I was when 5 and a half litres drained off!

also pointed out the scan they are currently looking at is almost a month old so if it was moderate then who knows what it is now

I’m praying tomorrow drains enough fluid to give me relief but will still push for answer regarding surgery

    thanks again

    Claire

  • I hope the drain works tomorrow and worth asking about the surgery
