Hi folks,
I’m on about day 20 of 25 of radiation, and for the last couple of days I’ve had a very sore ankle in the evening after I’ve been lying on the couch for a while. It’s so bad that I can’t put weight on it for up to twenty seconds. It’s disconcerting because I had a similar thing happening in my knees before my hysterectomy, which was magically cured by the surgery. I’m about to go back to work and this is going to be a pain. I’ve searched the forums but haven’t had luck, but I’m sure I read somewhere that joint pain can be a side effect? Is it temporary do you think?
Ill mention it at my next appointment if I remember, I just often forget questions in the moment, if it’s not happening right then.
Hi Captainloo
Well done for completing the first 20 sessions- on the home straight now.
I have not heard of anyone having pain in there ankle during radiotherapy. I was told that sometimes there can be aching in the hip, lower back area after radiotherapy.
I did experience joint pain during chemotherapy and I believe this is more common.
I would suggest telling your radiotherapists at your next appointment or bringing it up with your consultant- in case something else is going on. One thing I did find was I did have some lower back pain from lying on the plinth- could it be possible that the position you are on the plinth or simply getting of the plinth has caused the pain?
You could also give the Support Line a call and ask one of the nurses and explain the nature of the pain and what makes it worse or feel better.
Jane
Hi Jane, oh maybe it’s the chemo then, I had a dose just over a week ago. It’s nothing physical like the plinth, it’s scarily similar to my knee pain that disappeared after the op.
Could it be neuropathy pain from the chemo? Maybe ask about it.
If you had chemo a week ago it could be due to that. I regularly had pain after the first few days of each cycle.
with radiotherapy and pain it tends to be in the area treated- so for us- pelvis
