Provera for 6 months now

I had my 3rd biopsy in end of May and doctor said that the cancer is still there but it was less than what they saw in previous biopsy. I have been taking Provera for 6 months now so they would do 2 more biopsies and see how the medicine works. If not, then they would discuss other options.

My main point of worry is if the cancer is reducing but not completely clear in next 6 months, would they compulsorily remove the uterus? I am just 29 years old and don't have kids yet, so I am very keen to preserve my fertility.

Also, I still face cramps and mild bleeding. I have mirena coil fitted and doctor said that my body is strongly rejecting the coil as this is the 3rd time they have tried to put it in. Could the cramps and bleeding because of that? Because it is very random not continous.

  • Hi Letap

It sounds promising that the cancer is reducing while you are taking the provera. It sounds like the doctor is giving it more time to work (6 months isn't that long) and hoping that it will further reduce or get rid of the cancer.

It is hard to know what will happen if the cancer is not completely gone in the next 6 months- it may be that there is another hormonal option that could be used or a higher dose.

Understandably due to your age, you do not want to have a hysterectomy and the surgery could only be done with your consent after looking at all available options. Nothing can be done compulsorily. The doctor can only advise you but it is your decision. With fertility there may be other options to look into when the time comes.

The cramps and bleeding may well be due to the coil and it seems that your doctor feels this may be the case. The provera may also be having a similar affect. If the cramps and bleeding do not settle or become different in anyway- heavier bleeding, severe pain then I would urge you to get checked out.
