Hi, I was diagnosed with recurrent womb cancer last Tuesday (previously diagnosed with stage 1a in 2023 and had a hysterectomy and no other treatment). On Thursday I went back to discuss treatment. First of all Chemo was mentioned as the only option and we spent an hour discussing it. The Registrar hadn't known it was stage 1a and went out to discuss with a consultant. They came back and said Hormone Therapy (HT) was also an option. I think I was still in shock about the news and hadn't really heard about HT. Has anyone any advice as to which is preferable to have?
Hi SnoopyGal
I am really sorry to hear that your cancer has returned after treatment.
I had chemo in 2022 and the chemo that seems to be used most often in womb cancer is carboplatin and paclitaxel. Chemo was not easy at times but it was doable. I did have side effects but on the whole they were managed with medication and support. Do you know what type of chemo has been offered and how many cycles? Mine was a 21 day cycle- so one day in hospital and then 20 days at home.
I have not had hormone therapy but for endometrial cancer - this is usually progesterone. I will pop a link with some more info.

It is hard when faced with a decision like this so please do give the Support Line a call if you feel it would help to talk things through.

Hi Jane
Many thanks for your reply.
The chemo I'm being offered is the same drugs as you had, 6 rounds and on a 21 day cycle. It's good to know you found it doable.
The hormone therapy is called Megace.
I've spent the day investigating and think I'll go for HT first, I know I'll be switched to chemo if no improvement is shown.
Thanks again

I am stage 1 and having hormone treatment, via the mirena coil - but don't know about Megace! I presume this is in tablet form? Anyway, I've been on this for over 4 months with very few problems and am hoping to avoid surgery but we will see. My next biopsy is next month and as I understand it, many women with either early stage cancer or recurrent cancer do quite well on it. What stage are you at now? I do hope you make the right decision and good wishes...
Hi, no problem at all, the more information we all have the better. Apparently I have been very unlucky, 98% of women with low grade womb cancer don't have any recurrence after a hysterectomy which is why there is little monitoring. It has come back in my pelvis area and only found after my doctor became suspicious - I had gone to her about something else!
Good luck with your recovery
