Hi, this is my first time posting. I’ve been diagnosed with grade 1, probable stage 1a cancer, so thankfully likely very early. However, I’m increasingly worried about the wait for the operation. My biopsy was 12 Nov, it was confirmed as cancer on 26 Nov, the MDT was 12 Dec, but I have no date for the operation. They were aiming for 24/1, but have been told it might be February. There is backlog and of course it’s been Christmas.
This feels like a long time. Should I be worried and kick up a fuss or accept that there are clinical priorities ahead of me given my cancer is probably early? I asked about likely timelines before Christmas but the response made me feel I was being a nuisance.
I’m 53, working full time with teenage children. I really need to plan work and care and the waiting for a date is beginning to drive me a bit mad and I fear I’ve simply been forgotten.
Opinions welcome please!
Sounds about right to me - average, from what I’ve seen on this group, tends to be 6-8 weeks for low predicted grade/stage, and sometimes less for predicted higher. it can depend on your individual hospital and how busy they are, but I was diagnosed end November 2021, had my pre-op assessment a couple of weeks later, and had my op 22nd January 2022. There’s no harm chasing it with your CNS.
Yes, I had those in early December, with the multi disciplinary meeting on 12 Dec where they confirmed it’s hopefully just the operation I will need. Am thinking it’s just Christmas and New Year that have got in the way and wheels might start turning next week. Or hope so! Helpful to know your timeline, thank you.
Hi Kembooks
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of endometrial cancer and I can understand why you want the surgery out of the way.
Have you had any scans yet? These would normally be done before surgery.
Timing can vary a lot between hospitals and how busy they are at the time. I had my surgery 4 weeks after my first symptoms, I was high grade but this was only picked up on in my post op histology.
There would be no harm in contacting your hospital on Monday, if you have not heard anything to ask for an update. Alternatively, I actually contacted my GP to move mine along as I had the tests and diagnosis before actually being assigned a consultant. My GP was able to get me a clinic appointment the following day. Straight after the appointment I had my pre op checks (Friday pm) and I had my surgery on the Monday am. My experience was that although at the time I felt forgotten and wanted the surgery date- things were actually going on behind the scenes. Once I saw the consultant it moved quickly.
This is not the same for everyone though. Another thing you could try is to ask whether there is a short notice/cancellation list.
I understand the need to plan with work and family life. I was the same. It does feel like a long time when you are waiting but taking into account the Christmas break- the timings do not seem especially long from what I have come across on here.

If you haven’t had your pre-op assessment yet, that may be worth pushing for and asking when it might be, as that has to happen first.
Hi Jane, thanks for replying. Yes, I’ve had the CT and MRI scans so know that it’s probably early - though no guarantees as you say. I’m sure Christmas and New Year have made it seem worse. It would be helpful to know that cogs are turning so will probably send a quick email next week. I feel bad for bothering them though.
Don't feel bad for bothering them, it is natural to want to know. An email sounds a good plan.
The provisional stage and grade sound promising and hopefully will be confirmed after surgery.
I think a lot of people on here have found it difficult at this time of year.
Kembrook, my CNS told me they like to be “bothered” and that they’d far rather patients got in touch than sat at home worrying. I phoned them 2-3 times a week most weeks, sometimes just for a chat if I was anxious, sometimes asking them if they could chase appointments for me. They were brilliant.
