I have just had laproscopic hysterectimy to remove womb/ ovaries etc for grade 1 stage 1A endometrial cancer. All went well as far as I know. I have read that following hystology it maybe that I will be advised to have radiation therapy. I have read that radiotherapy doesnt prevent reoccurrence, can damage currently healthy cells, can not be repeated in the area given if cancer does come back and doesnt stop cancer reoccurring elsewhere in the body therefore is it actually worth the risk? Has anyone who was offered radiitherapy as a preventative treatment refused it? If so what was the result/reaction? Where you offered an alernative preventative treatment? . At the moment I am thinking of refusing the radiotherapy . If I do initially refuse but then change my mind what are my options?
I've just had my 8th radiotherapy session. 17 to go. I did wonder whether to go ahead but decided it was the right decision. So far so good. I was restaged to grade 1 stage 2 after having been told I wouldn't need further treatment. I'm also going to have 3 brachytherapy. It's not easy waiting for the results but try to stay positive. And whatever happens I hope it goes well for you x
Thanks for taking the time to respond.I hope all goes well with the rest of your treatment.
My worry is obviously that it will be restaged as I too was told initially that they would do the full hysterectomy etc and that would be it. I just want to know now one way or another, the waiting is the worst part of it.
Take care x
hi, I’m also Lou from Liverpool and also had laporoscopic hysterectomy this week. I have no answers but wanted to say hi. Were you in the Womens?
I don’t have an exact diagnosis yet as biopsy from what they thought was a fibroid wasn’t conclusive but the mri and ct suggests highly likely to be Endometrial stromal sarcoma or STUMP. Now for the long wait for histology results !
Lou x
Hi. No. Im living in Huddersfield now so went to Halifax. I hope all goes well with you and everything is sorted as quickly as possible.
The good news for me so far is that cancer and grade have not been restaged they remain at grade 1 and 1A but the not so good nes is that the histology results also stated suspicious lymphovascular invasion as they thought there might be a couple of cancer cells in one capillary. They have sent back to the pathologist for a supplementary report before they decide on anything else. They keep saying it is 1 and 1A so that is good but this possible invasion is now worrying me. It is confusing when they say its 2 and 1A and therfore contained but then you get told maybe it isnt. It goes back to MDT on Xmas Eve to discuss further.
All we can do is wait hope and pray.
Hooe you still manage to have a Merry Christmas and best wishes that 2025 is a Happy one because Ive had enough of 2024 xx
I had it womb cancer 9 yrs ago. Grade 1 Had full hysterectomy then 25 radiotherapy + 1 beachy. Got result of no recurrence 4 yrs later So it gave me 8 yrs more than.maybe would of had without it!! but this time last year was told it had gone to both lungs! Grade 4 lung cancerTumour in each lung.+ they couldn't do anything at all. So put me on provera hormone tabs but then they decided to try bito f sabre radiotherapy. Which has not cure it but has shrunk tumours slightly. Scan every 3 moths so far so good hopefully have tears now. Its caused some lung tissue damage but prob worth it to keep cancer at bay. Been ill for while with side effects of steroid but getting there. Just started to feel bit better + now hair is falling out. Poss side effects of provera? + now have shingles!!! Wash out xmas + ny. Seems never ending lately but trying my best to stay positive. Have a good talk with your oncologist b4 u decide anything. But make them listen to all your concerns. Good luck x
Like you I had my womb, tubes, ovaries, cervix and top end of my Virginia taken away on 24th May 2024 and Grade 1 Stage 1A seven months later on 16th December 2024 I had a follow up with my Consultant but also to have a Vault Smear done which involved taking a sample from the vaginal vault ( the space between the Virginia and were the cervix used to be ) unfortunately during my hysterectomy I lost a lot of blood apparently I wasn't far from getting a blood transfusion and that during the biopsy of my cervix they couldn't get a clear result I think due to blood apparently I was five hours in surgery.
After surgery I didn't need any further treatment except that smear apparently Cancer free but still on there books for five years but if I had been offered anything such as preventive treatment I would have jumped at it but that's my own thoughts.
If you click on my name you will see my whole journey from the high to the lows.
Whatever you decide it's your piece of mind and your decision in which I wish you well on Your decisions you make x.
What I am learning from everyones responses is to listen to my oncologist and trust their expertise. Whilst our journeys are similar they are all individually different.
Thank you to everyone for sharing
