Hi. Just wondering if people have had their MRI head or feet first?
Feet first for me. My head was sticking out of the machine, at least from the nose up. I am 5’ 7” (170 cm) tall. Hope this helps.
Head first for me. You will find it varies from hospital to hospital. Made no difference to me though as I had an eye mask on so that I wouldn’t open my eyes and feel claustrophobic!
Hi Clem16
I didn't have an MRI but would be asking the same question as you.
Have you got an appointment letter with a phone number on? Maybe give them a call and ask- I am sure you won't be the first to ask this.
Jane
Just to make sure anyway that you’re aware that MRI machines are open at both ends.
Hi Clem
The first MRI I had it was feet first, this was before I had surgery. I did have a second one, when I was being ‘measured up’ for radiotherapy, but I had to go head first for that one.
I was very wary, as I do get a bit claustrophobic and I was really frightened for both when I had them. Even the one that I had to go in head first I managed, as the room was very light and white, I could see the whole scanner, and they gave me something I could press if I felt panicky and wanted to come out, luckily I didn’t.
Good luck when you have your’s
Ange
Hi head first for me too. And if you don’t wear anything with metal on it you usually don’t have to disrobe too much for the MRI. Trust me to wear a dress with a big zip down the back and an underwired bra! There was a “breeze” blowing on my face so it didn’t feel claustrophobic and it was bigger inside than I was expecting too.
Thank you. Good to hear it was bigger than expected! My husband went for his MRI and remembered the metal free clothing but forgot the keys in his pocket! I was in the waiting room and when a nurse came out and asked for his next if kin I thought it was something awful! It was just to give me my husband's door key.
