Hi I realize this post is a few years old but I was wondering if anyone has gone through this. I am 32 years old and had a baby 10months ago. I didn’t get a period for the 8months and I assumed it was because I was breastfeeding. I stopped at 8months and immediately started to spot which later became a period. I bled for 10days heavy with clots and it stopped. One week later I had sex and while it wasn’t painful the bleeding started again and has been on for over a month and got heavier for the last one week. I was asked to combine anti inflammatory with a traxenemic (not sure I got the spelling) to stop the bleeding but it just clots the blood and the bleeding is still on. Had an ultrasound done a month ago and my endometrial lining was 20mm before all the heavy bleeding. Had another one done recently and still 20mm. They have me scheduled for a biopsy and hysteroscopy in April but I keep wondering why they can’t bring it forward. Also I have PCOS and I assume it got worse with having a baby and the added weight. Just going crazy over here and hoping to talk to someone thanks.
Hi CC, welcome to the group. I feel for you worrying about this and about the wait in particular. I’d suggest getting in contact with your GP and asking if he/she can request that you’re seen sooner.
Hi CC,
Sorry to hear you're going through this, I know how hard the waiting can be. I completely understand how hard the waiting is, I had a ultrasound done back in October as I'd been bleeding since June with just a couple of weeks where I didn't bleed, ultrasound showed a large ovarian cyst and thickened endometrium of 17mm. Referred to Gynae urgently but because I live in Portugal urgent is not being seen until end of February, so still waiting. I don't know about you but I find some days I can carry on as usual and forget about what's happening, and other days it's all consuming. I really hope you manage to get your appointment moved forward.
Hi thanks for your response and yes the wait is crazy. I already talked to my gynaecologist and he said there’s really nothing he can do except someone cancels. I try not to think about it but I find myself going back to that thought of what ifs. Hang in there and chat me if you need to talk.
It's the what ifs that are the worst. It must be so hard for you with a young baby too. Hopefully he has a cancellation and can see you sooner. There's another medication they can try instead of tranexamic acid which seems to have worked for some people on here. I was lucky that I saw a different GP to the one that had prescribed the txa for me and they upped the dose and that stopped my bleeding. If you ever need to talk I'm always here too
CC your consultant is answerable to your GP, so you could go back to your GP and let him/her know of the delay and ask if there’s anything they can do about it.
Hi all,
It depends how the referral was made and what is suspected. If cancer was suspected I would think you'd have to have an appointment in 2 weeks. Correct me if I'm wrong as treatment varies across hospitals but I think 2WW appointments would be standard as government guidelines.
A x
Hi sistermoon, you're right, the 2ww definitely applies across all hospital trusts if cancers suspected, tho I'm not sure if CC has already seen the Gynaecologist or not as she mentions she's spoken to them. If she has been seen then technically the 2 week wait doesn't apply to getting the tests done unfortunately.
Yes there’d be a two week protocol if cancer was suspected and it may not have been - but the GP could still be talked and asked if they could chase it. Wouldn’t do any harm!
Yeah I think it’s different across countries. I’m in Canada, don’t know if that makes any difference. My GP sent an urgent referral to the gynaecologist and I was seen within 2weeks but the gynaecologist said he is given a slot by the government each month and there’s nothing he can do to fast track it. He did tell me to try other gynaecologist in a different province and I had my medical record sent to another one today. They are going to review and see if they can do better, no promises.
