Too fat for surgery

I have been diagnosed with stage 1 womb cancer, a 3cm tumour, back in December 2021. My consultant and team have all said no to surgery until i lose weight. As i am 26 stone at the moment, i also have ME, i have managed to lose 10kg on my own and been told it's not quick enough. I have no help with weight loss, yet another waiting list. I have biopsies every 3 months.

i just feel like a non person. I feel my fat is me and they are not listening to how hard it is for me to exercise. Some days i just cry,

Has anyone got a similar story?

  • Hi Decan6

I just want to say well done for loosing the 10kg, I have battled with my weight all my life and know how hard it is. You are not a non person, you most certainly do count and and ladies and I on this site are 100% in your corner.

I'am a comfort eater, so for me the more I'm down or worried the more I turn to food, so I know how important it is to try to stay as up and as positive as possible. Just getting outside in the fresh air for little walks really lifts my mental health.

Iam sorry that you say you haven't had any help with your weight loss. it's so hard trying yo do it without help or support,  could you talk to your GP or CNS about it?

Don't give up your doing so well 10kg is fantastic you can do this!

  • Hi Robin and Decan6, hope you're both ok.  Decan6 I admire you lost 10kg,  that's so good for you I'm struggling at the moment with my weight....seemed to be going well lost a kilo after the operation...but I'm now  working from home and the biscuit tin not that far away and I found I've now put on 2kg....this was couple of weeks ago and I  dare not weigh myself now.

If you can keep do what you're doing yiu will lose more weight and if you can't exercise then just walking is beneficial .

Hope you achieve yiur goals and maybe give me some tips?

    Take care xx

  • Robin thanks so much for your encouragement and hope. I appreciate it. I've phoned the doctor this morning to speak about it. It's really tough and i do try and get out for walks daily. I really just want the op now as i want it out so i can move on. They said it probably won't be this year unless my weight changes dramatically. If it wasn't for MaxMillan i don't know how i would cope, and for all the ladies on here. x

  • Hi Decan6 and Madesp

So pleased that you have contacted your GP, let's hope this is the first step to giving you the support that you should be get through this difficult time.

Iam sure there is lots of ladies reading your post like Madesp and myself who understand how hard it is to lose weight but it is possible you have already proved that.

Please try not to think about how long it's going to take just concentrate on building on your amazing achievement so far.

    With you all the way

    love Robin x

  • just spoken to doctor to explain that i feel unsupported. She is a new doctor, and i explained i'm on the weight loss clinic list, but felt like i have been left to deal with everyone on my own. So she is going to talk with her colleagues. I'm not one for going to the doctor unless i have to. We will see what happens, but just talking to her and being on here helps me a lot. Had a wee cry so feeling a bit better. Thank you lovely ladies.

  • Bless you. so pleased that's she is going to get back to you after speaking to her colleagues. Reaching out is the hardest thing and you have done that now honey.

    Big hugs

  • Hi and a warm welcome to our group of supportive ladies, sorry I wasn't around yesterday to say hello.

Well done you for losing 10kg on your own, especially suffering from ME. Its hard to exercise when it's an effort to walk (That's what a friend of mine told me) Even harder to lose weight if you get no support. A few ladies on here have recommended Slimming World to get good results so it might be worth a try to find one locally.

I've read from the posts that you've been able to contact your new GP who sounds like she might be more sympathetic so fingers crossed.

There is a reason that the more "well endowed ladies" have to lose weight before surgery. Apparently when we have the op the abdomen is filled with air and the body is elevated at the feet. This can cause pressure on the lungs and heart. Forgive me if I've got that bit wrong, it's from memory. So please don think you're being discriminated because you're cuddly - there's a medical reason for the operation being a temporary no-go.

If you get any more news let us know.

    Welcoming hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Decan6, well done on losing 10kg that is amazing from experience I know how hard it can be.  Try not to lose hope of getting the op I was 27 stone when I had surgery I had to have a breathing test done and a scan of my heart to make sure I was well enough to have surgery maybe this is something you could ask about.  I like robin am a comfort eater and I have put on weight since this all started so again you should be so proud of yourself for the weight you have lost. X

  • thank you ladies for your wonderful support.  i hate weighing myself but did today and i've lost another 4kg!! The walking must be paying off. I am also a comfort eater but really strict on what i have in my fridge now. If i have kettles chips i'm done for! x

  • Yay that is fantastic, over half a stone well done, you must feel so chuffed. Just keep going Decan6 you can do it.

    Hugs Robin x
