Hi everyone,
Based on feedback from members, we are setting up a dedicated discussion thread to discuss chemotherapy. Please feel welcome to use this discussion thread to talk about making a decision about chemotherapy, your appointments, side effects, ask questions and discuss any other parts of your experience with chemotherapy.
If you'd like to discuss radiotherapy, there is also a radiotherapy support thread.
Best wishes,
Macmillan Community team
Hi Walkinglady.
Your post bought a tear to my eye, such a lovely thing to do. Congratulations finishing your chemo.
Hugs Robin xx
Hi Robin
I’m sure you’re rocking the shaved head look as well. Takes a lot less time to get ready.
Haven’t tried a wig yet, I’ve mainly been going out au natural, with a cap on if it’s been raining or too sunny.
Good luck with your treatment.
love Karen xx
Thank you Karen, I will be glad once tomorrow is over to be honest.
I bought the wig mainly to wear when I see my grandaughters, they only think I had a hysterectomy, they know nothing about the cancer and chemo. Will save them from any worry as long as possible.
lots of love xx
Paclitaxel and Carboplatin regimen.
Hello all just a quick update and hopefully this will help someone going through the same dilemma.
So I had allergic reaction to Paclitaxel on all 3 sessions. Discussion with Oncologist who advised NHS wouldn't fund the expensive alternative (ABRAXANE) possibly because I am deemed to be cancer free atm, so it's not available to me, it costs around £5k each bag She was looking into pharmacist desensitise program, but I learned the other day at my chemo review that it means same drug is givenn in minute doses then stopped then restarted then stopped until my body tolerates it then they speed it up. They could not guarantee that this will NOT give me a reaction and probably my body would still nit tolerate it. So based on everything including the fact that I'm waiting fir laser eye surgery because I have a condition where I am at risk of acute glaucoma it comes on suddenly and high blood pressure is dangerous the reaction with Paclitaxel raised my pressure to extremes. Based on this and the fact that there's the real risk of death also with the reaction from Paclitaxel for me I decided to ditch the drug and carried on just with the Carboplatin. I'm of the mind that I've had 3 of the duo and if there was any cells they'd be dealt with and if not then had had it for nothing. I'm at peace with my decision and I'm not saying it goes for everyone but I just wanted to share my experience. They did tell me that it's rare to have a reaction every time.
Good luck ladies with your healing journey each and every one of you. Xxxx
Oh Mad how awful having the reaction alongside the worry around your glaucoma risk, but at least you had some of the dual regime and won’t suffer for your last three. The main thing is that you have come to a decision that you are at peace with and can move on. It makes me so mad when money raises its head over he wellbeing of patients, especially when so much money is wasted elsewhere. Here’s hoping for uneventful last rounds.
Much love
Chrissie xxx
