Oncologist appointment

Hi all.

I saw the oncologist today and as expected,  I'm to have 5 weeks of external radiotherapy and 3 bracytherapy sessions.  I'm feeling rather anxious , especially regarding the side effects ts. Obviously she gave me all the worst case scenarios,  so hopi I wont get all of them!

I worried when she said if she sees anything on the scan then it will have to be dealt with first. Does this often happen?

I really need to try and calm down now, my overthinking is getting the better of me! I was able to have my husband with me which helped. She also examined me and said i was healing well and things appeared normal.  Phew!

Thank you as always for your support. X

  • Hi . The overthinking on this journey never gets any less sadly! If you type Brachytherapy into the search bar at the top of this page you'll see some posts. It's painless just undignified! I was shaking like a jelly when I went for my first session but the radiologists and nurses where lovely. The Oncologist did a quick internal and confirmed all was healing up nicely. It was all over before I knew it.

I didn't have radiotherapy so hopefully some of the ladies will be long to chat. My hubby had 3 weeks of external radiotherapy for his Prostate cancer and he had no side effects at all so fingers crossed it'll be easy. I think it's the idea of 5 weeks - endless -it'll be over before you know it.

I didn't have another scan after my op so can't help there sorry. Great your husband was ale to be with you.

    Sending hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi Barb.

Thank you for replying.  I think they have to tell you the worst case scenarios,  but hey, it made it sound scary. I'm sure some people find it fairly undaunting...I hope I'm one of those!

    Take care.  Heather x
