Hi all, just had my six month check done. It’s the first time I’ve seen my team since I finished brachytherapy at the beginning of November last year, as my three month check was done over the phone.. So, I was feeling rather anxious! I’ll admit to having a little poke around myself, and everything felt a bit bulgy and squidgy ( that’s a new medical term by the way,) so I was a bit scared that I might have a prolapse .
However everything is fine! I’m all healed up and looking healthy, and my oncologist was rather impressed that I was managing the number 3 dilator - well so am I to be honest! I mentioned that there was sometimes a trace of blood on the dilator. He said this is because the brachytherapy thins the skin and when you are using the dilators it can make small tears, so they expect this to happen sometimes.
The CNS then told me my next appointment will be by telephone after which I may be put on the system where I just refer myself if there is anything I’m worried about. This made me feel quite cheerful!
I know everyone is at different stages on this road, but it’s nice to get positive news. We all cope because in the end we have to, but we are all stronger than we know and hopefully hearing good news will help people who are struggling, knowing there can be light at the end of the tunnel. Keep on truckin' guys!

Hi Viv,
Delighted for you - such positive news. I need to practise more with my dilator
I hope mine goes as well but don't know when. Hospital rang today to cancel my appointment tomorrow - am feeling really fed up now with aftercare. Called CNS after the cancellation as don't know when I'll get results of last week's CT scan either. Sorry to moan.
Cheers,
Dx
Oh no, cancellations are so demoralising aren’t they. I know I get myself psyched up for these appointments and then to be told it’s not happening......bleugh! Perhaps your CNS can put some pressure on. My CNS team are brilliant, there are two nurses and a support worker, so always somebody to talk to and they seem to get things in place. In fact they all seem on the ball, altho no one advised me to do pelvic floor exercises until today!
I was going to make some comments to my doc about the unappealing design of the dilators, but he’s quite a serious chap and I couldn’t bring myself to be too flippant. I didn’t mention anything about the buzzy toys to him either!
Really hope you get your scan results soon, you don’t want to be playing the waiting game for too long, so fingers crossed for you,

Hi Viv
Late replying, just got back from taking hubby for Covid jab#2 and couldn't reply before we set off.
That's absolutely great news! As you say to get positive news is so uplifting!
I wonder why hospital trusts vary so much? My Oncologist has discharged me back to the care of my gynaecologist, have I mentioned he's gorgeous?! for my next face to face consult in July and I'll see him every 3 months for the next 2 years. Then year 3 every 6 months.
Also good to extra reassurance that a smear of blood after dilating (or buzzing) is normal. It did still worry me a bit.
My only downside is I've put a bit of weight on. When I had my hysteroscopy last July I basically stopped drinking any alcohol until I finished Brachy in November. The weight came off quite easily. Since then although I'm still walking 5 miles daily it's a lot slower as hubby's other hip has packed up. (I got the blame for that the long drive to pick me up from hospital, the wait until I was discharged and then a 2hr+ journey home - I suppose it was 6 hours plus but hardly my fault hahah!) I'm also having a drink again - couldn't put up with someone moaning 24/7!
Anyway, stay in touch!
Big hugs to you, Barb xx

Oh D, rotten to hear your appointment's been cancelled - hopefully you'll get in soon and also find out your results of the scan as well.

Thanks Barb, I’m actually beginning to believe that IT has gone., so feeling quite good at the moment. I remember you said that at your checkup they looked at the site of the op etc, but my oncologist didn’t check any of that. I also had a concern that my bladder wasn’t emptying completely, and he said do your pelvic floor exercises. Well, they hadn’t mentioned that before, so they are going to send me a booklet.
I had my second Covid jab last Sunday, had a very strong reaction to it - fever, shakes, nausea - which lasted for 24 hours. Strangely didn’t feel a thing with the first one. So hope your hubby is OK.
Have you mentioned your gynaecologist is gorgeous......yes, many times!! I’m beginning to feel jealous!

Thanks Barb, the transfer from one hospital trust to another seems to be the challenge. Spoke to lovely CNS today who is going to investigate and try to get things back on track. Hearing Viv's story has made me feel much more positive than yesterday - I'm suddenly feeling pretty good despite it all. Must be the Spring weather, or maybe just developing a tad more body confidence.
