Hi All
Yesterday I had my second post op consultancy with my Oncologist. He asked if I'd had any problems with urine & bowel functions. Happily no problems with either.
I asked if I needed to continue with the dilators as the paperwork I received from the hospital said discontinue after 6 months but the booklet given with the dilator pack said continue to use once or twice weekly unless actively engaged in sex (A very distant for me LOL!) I was told I'd continue to have internals for the next 3 years. (Tri monthly for 2 years, then every 6 months for year 3.) So to enable ease of examinations best to keep using. (I've still got my buzzy toys!) I've only ever achieved size 3, not attempted no. 4! I still occasionally have a smear of blood when using but he wasn't concerned.
I asked to see one of the scans so he showed my MRI scan, pointing out the thickened womb wall and you could hardly make out the 4cm tumour. My thanks to the radiologists who interpret these scans. Technology is wonderful.
Then time for an exam. He looked at the 4 scars on my tummy, 2 hardly show at all now. The an internal with a speculum, surprisingly painless - I used to dread smear tests as they were so painful - and lastly examined the scar tissue after brachytherapy. In conclusion all's well thank goodness.
I asked would I have have a scan every 6 months and he said no, there shouldn't be anything to scan basically as the Brachytherapy should have taken out any malingerers. I was told to report if I should have a bleed, not the smears on a dilators, more significant amounts. Also if my ankles swelled, unusual pain etc. Any concerns, contact my CNS immediately.
So now I've been discharged from my Oncologist to my Gynaecologist (Who's also an Oncologist) for 3 monthly visits until 2023. What's awful I couldn't give him a hug or shake his hand>
Celebrated by having a MacDonald's drive thru. We're at least a 30 mile trip from any MacDonald's so didn't feel guilty! I was delicious!!

That’s good news. So pleased for you.
I go back to oncologist this afternoon to discuss their plans. I have lots of questions for them and may think more before making my decision.

Hi Barb, really pleased two hear that everything's going well and glad you got to treat yourself to a McDonalds, I can't remember when I last had one of those!
Very pleased for you, Mrs BJH. Personally, I celebrated no more treatment with a pub lunch, but that's not easy these days!!! xx
Hi Barb,
That's great news you've had today - I'm so pleased for you (and delighted you enjoyed your Macdonald's!). Really helpful to hear what happens later post-op too. Like you I had TLH BSO (with 14 lymph nodes taken), followed by three sessions of brachytherapy.
I've been transferred back to my local hospital, having never seen my surgeon again since the day of my op six months ago, and a brief exam by the oncologist prior to brachy. However, having various aches and discomfort, I had an X-ray recently (no sign of lesions on my spine / sacro-iliac joints thankfully) and a thorax-abdomen-pelvis CT scan yesterday to check a nodule on my lung (it was spotted during last scan in October and deemed benign so this is just to check).
My first appointment with my new gynaecologist is next Wednesday so I've got lots of questions for her. Like you, I used my dilators (or equivalent :-) ) as per instructions and all seemed fine. But today I noticed some faint smears after sex so have begun worrying about recurrence again - I'm hoping it's not a problem (can still manage size 3 OK). Your comments made me feel more relaxed - it's definitely not a bleed.
Hopefully the gynae consultant will check out the CT scan and do an internal: I still feel like my organs haven't settled down (bowels in particular if I don't walk regularly or take enough water, hips and nerves in legs still playing up too). Not all bad though, I'm managing about 5 hours a week of TaiChi and yoga so at least I'm bendy still... I do sometimes forget the op was major surgery and can take the body a while to recover.
Take care and have buzzy fun!
Dx
Hi Barb, I am so glad to hear that everything was ok at your check and that you have been discharged back to your gynaecologist. Doing a little jump of joy here and glad to hear you enjoyed a MacDonald s too. I haven't had one for years but when my daughter and her family came back from Switzerland that was the first thing they had, a MacDonald breakfast, as she said, whilst they can get some burgers out there, it's not the same..They don't do hash Brown's for starters and she can't get fish and chips over there or any breaded or battered fish for that matter so that is next apparently! Making the most of her time here before they have to go back again. You take care. Love Lamb.xx
Mine was nearly a year ago that's why it tasted so good!
