I’m curious to know if anyone out there declined the chemo offered after surgery. My oncologist told me there is a 70% chance I am cured by the surgery alone and that chemo will add 7% to that. My inclination at this point is to decline. I feel that the cumulative toxicity and the possible short/long/permanent side effects are not worth that small gain. It’s a tough decision and I know it is mine alone and that I have to stand by it when made. I’m just wondering if anyone else found themselves in this position. Thanks.
Hi it really is up to you if I was In your position I would do some research also speke to your oncologist and cns and family too it’s not an easy decision to make i hope you are happy wat ever u choose todo xxxx
Hi JWO. I was stage 1B, grade 3. I was told I was 80% clear but to prevent recurrence as some malignant cells had been found in peritoneal wash the "Belt & Braces" fix was 3 Brachytherapy sessions. He said with my lymph nodes being clear and LVSI there was no need for chemo or external radiotherapy.
Hasn't really helped with your decision making but might form a comparison.
Sending big hugs, Barb x

Hi JWO,
I've not had chemo, but nursed my daughter through it for breast cancer 6 years ago. It was tough, and I don't want to see anyone else go through that, but she is still around. Its the one thing I dreaded about my cancer, but fortunately the operation was enough. I had decided that if I had to do it, I would. I think that anything to reduce your risks is worth it. xxxx
Hi JWO,
I am also stage 3a, grade 1. I had surgery in February and am about to start Chemotherapy on the 7th April. They also said I would be having radiotherapy once I had finished the chemo. The surgeon said they are throwing the book at me with treatments to give me the best chance of it not returning. They didn’t really give me the option of not having the treatment. It does seem to not raise the percentage much for all the possible side effects etc. They never told me any percentages. Wishing you well with which ever decision you come to with your treatment and recovery xxxx
Hi Natalie, doing really well actually at the minute, thank you. One of the open wounds of my incision has now completely healed so just one left to heal. Feeling really positive but apprehensive about starting chemo after Easter. How are you doing? Everything is so much harder with Covid isn’t it. It feels like Groundhog Day everyday. Xxx
