Hi I had my hysterectomy (keyhole) over 5 weeks ago and I am bleeding slightly (not heavily and I only notice when I go to the toilet) has anyone else experienced this. I am aware of an uncomfortableness inside on my right, just wonder how long it is normal to bleed for. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi there, I Had very slight bleeding, really just a pinkish smear when I went to the toilet for around 8 weeks after my hysterectomy. I mentioned it to my surgeon at my follow up 5 weeks after surgery and he wasn't concerned. Eventually it just stopped, but if you are worried I would speak to your CSN.
Thanks for that, it sounds similar, I haven’t got a CSN, I was told to contact my GP, so am glad to hear back from someone who had a similar experience, just puts my mind at rest.
Hi CGed19. I think I remember a couple of ladies mentioning the same thing and they were told not to worry. How come you don't have a CSN? Normally GP's seem to hand over to hospital trusts and any post op situations are dealt with by the hospital staff. I remember whenever I raised a query with my GP I was told to contact the hospital - weird the way they all deal differently.

Hi Barb, thanks for your reply, I am Scottish, so maybe that’s why it’s different. My surgeon/consultant telephoned me last week (over 5 weeks after my hysterectomy) and told me that the cancer seemed to be caught early and no other treatment needed. But as yet I haven’t had anything formal on the exact stage and grade and no information on any follow up scans or what to look out for in the future. I have an appointment with my GP in a couple of weeks about returning to work so I can ask her any questions then. As you can imagine, it is just so lovely and reassuring to be able to ask you ladies any questions I may have and I am so grateful for this. Caroline xxx
Hi Caroline. Great to hear the cancer was caught early and no further need for treatment. It can make you feel a little lost - having spent months/weeks waiting for tests, results, the op. Then after you're left in a kind of limbo not knowing what the exact stage & grade were. It might be worthwhile taking a look at the Life after cancer forum I think this has been helpful to other ladies who needed no further treatment.
I don't think future scans are offered as a matter of course, and what to look out for - well I suppose we know our bodies and what doesn't feel right seems a bit hit and miss though. I would think you should receive a formal letter from the hospital trust which should be copied to your GP.
As you said though, we're all here for you in the meantime.
Big hugs, Barb xx

Hi CGed,
I was Grade 2 stage 1A, and needed no further treatment. I only know my stage because I saw it on a file on the consultants desk!! I had a couple of follow ups during the first year (internals). I was then put on a patient led system, where I just ring up if I have any problems! At first I felt a bit wobbly about this but have got used to the idea. I was told to look out for any bleeding or discharge. I had the distinct impression that they were not too worried about me. When my husband had cancer he had frequent check ups for 5 years.
Don't go mad with anything, and you will be fine!! XXX
