Hi I am probably being really stupid but I am 49 not had a period for 5 months and thought I must be going through the menopause however I then started having spotting sometimes everyday for weeks jFlushedt pinky white discharge sometimes proper red blood but not a lot ..... I also have a lot of lower back pain and feel nauseated so went to my Gp he sent me to a gynaecologist I had a smear and had a Flushedt of bleeding after that, he the sent me for a TVS SCAN and now got the results saying my womb lining is 18mm Flushed  And my cervix is inflamed and now booked me in for a hysterectopy to do a biopsy so a bit worried the other weird thing is that he said my blood test show I am not menopausal so why have my periods stopped ????? So confused can anyone let me know if they have had similar and what it was .. I can’t stop thinking about it

  • Hi Sassy,

    Sorry you find yourself here.

I think there are probably many reasons that periods can stop. My own daughter's periods stopped at age 17. After investigations it turned out that she had a benign growth on the base of her pituitary gland. She was put on bromocriptine tablets for life. Funny thing is after being pregnant things righted themselves, and now doesn't need the tablets!!

I do know the medical professionals don't seem to like thick linings. Mine was normal, but I still had cancer!! Good luck. xxx

  • Hi and welcome to our little corner of the Online Community. Here you'll find a lovely group of supportive ladies who have all been exactly where you are now. A possibility of cancer diagnosis brings all sorts of stress and fears and if anyone can hold your hand and reassure you we will. We're all at the start, in the middle or the end of what can only be described as a roller-coaster ride. The ride no-one wanted to get on.

I know enlarged womb linings seem to ring alarm bells. Mine was shown to be slightly enlarged during the TVP scan so I had hysteroscopy and biopsy. As my cervix was stenosed I ended having done under GA (epidural). I always bled a lot after smear tests and found them really painful.

I was a good few years post menopause and it was the light pinky spotting that I mentioned to my bestie and she insisted I get it checked out. Unfortunately it's not just post menopausal ladies who can get womb cancer but it's strange your periods have stopped.

It's hard not to stop thinking and fretting about it but once you've had the hysteroscopy and the biopsy things will be clearer to the consultants and they'll make a plan of treatment for you. I'm assuming they've hinted at endometrial cancer as you've joined this forum so it might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer I found it invaluable in my journey.

Come back and tell us how the biopsy went but if you've more questions or just want reassurance there's a wealth of knowledge here.

Sending you welcoming hugs, B xx Hugging

Hi thank you for your reply yes my consultant said he wanted to do the hysteroscopy as he had some concerns and told me a variety of things that could cause it but one being endometrial cancer so I am probably doing the wrong thing by googling everything ..... I should just wait and see but I do tend to worry, i am only glad he wanted to book it ASAP so I only have to wait a week does anyone know how long after they take the biopsy you get the results ....

  • Hi . One thing we all agree on is don't consult Dr Google! We also agree the constant waiting and worrying is awful. Results after biopsies seem to take between 2 and 3 weeks so in the meantime try to not overthink things, easier said than done.

    Big hugs, B xxHugging
