I am 37 and due to have abdominal Hysterectomy including lymph node and Omentum removal on Monday and have been told to expect the menopause immediately but not told anything else. Has anyone experienced surgical menopause? Could you possibly tell me what to expect, how quickly after surgery and how severe it is likely to be. Thank you xx

  •  Hi Bella H

I see no-one's been along to answer your post yet but I'm sure they will shortly. I had my op when I was long post-menopausal so can't offer any insight.

    • Hello, I was surgically induced into menopause over a week ago now. I do seem to be warmer than normal as I feel the cold terribly. However, even though the body is put right into it, I think the body takes a while to adjust from medications and trauma ....who knows but hopefully it won't be that bad xx
  • They kept my ovaries so I haven’t gone threw it yet but at the start when they thought I would lose them I was told it’s night sweats, hot flushes, no sex drive hope this helps xdx

  • Hi Bella yes I am going through a surgical menopause. It’s not too bad - a few waves of heat in the day and night and sleep is a bit disturbed but it wasn’t great before. I’m also quite ratty but I was like that with pmt! So I would say it hasn’t felt too drastic. I had my operation on the 26th October but it’s only been in the last few weeks that I’ve noticed I’m having the slight symptoms. When I speak to the consultant on Monday I will discuss HRT as it might help! Hopefully it won’t be too bad for you either. What time is your op on Monday? X

  • Hello, thank you so much for your reply. I have heard some real horrid stories of people getting horrendous symptoms straight after the operation so this gives me a lot of hope it won’t actually be that bad xx. Thank you xx

  • Thank you so much for this. Completely puts my mind at rest. Not got a time for the operation as yet. I haven’t had a letter confirming the date or anything. A little worried it’s going to be cancelled. I had the pre op over the phone yesterday. I’m so nervous xx

  • Thank you Natalie. Missed a call tonight from the hospital, tried to ring them back but it’s a line that doesn’t take incoming calls. I h the ink it must have been to arrange my covid test. My nerves have shot through the roof since haha. Hope you are okay x
