New here. Just awaiting WLE next month. Totally terrified. At work now, but going to catch up with all the posts on this "rare" condition later.

Seems so little available support or understanding out there,  aside from others with condition.

Happy to chat with anyone,  feeling very isolated just now.

  • Hi - how do I do this?  What is the LS group please?  I have surgery booked for VIN next week.  It’s all happened really fast

  • LS group is for Lichen sclerosus,  there are various support groups on Facebook.  Do you have WLE next week? It does happen fast once it starts. I'm on week 3 after surgery now, let me know if you have any questions I can help with x

  • Thank you so much for replying.  I don’t know what I am having.  At my appt on Tuesday I wasnt expecting to need surgery.  Rather thought I might have laser treatment or something but there aren’t many people who do it these days.  Consultant said doing nothing was not an option.  She did give cream as an option but said  it doesn’t always work and can cause great discomfort so it seemed best to me to cut it out.  She talked about removing two areas of abnormal tissue so I guess WLE  is what it is.

  • Laser wasn't offered at all to me, and I was told there was a shortage of cream which was the option I chose but not offered after.  My appointment I honestly thought I would be told all was well and just my age, so much for that. I have 2 areas also, only done one this time. Have you a date yet?

  • Yes, this coming Thursday 17th. I have been on other forums and there are women there saying it keeps coming back and they keep having more and more areas cut out.  That’s what scares me - being mutilated (for want of a better word)

  • How are you doing ? I just had mine done Friday and it coming back and having multiple surgeries is also my fear , I just had stage 1A2 cervical cancer and had an open abdominal hysterectomy at the end of October so I am just about over all of this and then 2 months later I found this area on my vulva .

  • Sorry, missed this. Important to remember there are also many ladies were it didn't come back and left the forums.  I feel the same about the mutilation.  But, nearly 6 weeks after surgery, and wound not so bad, just got back ache now from damn resting, this week I start to be up a little more. Hope you are doing OK x

  • So sorry to hear this. Certainly been through it haven't you. I'm doing much better now thanks, just dreading the check up in 4 weeks. Hope you are getting support, I have a great macmillan buddy, also just applied for talking therapy to help with other stuff going on in life. Hope you are doing as well as possible,  look after yourself,  rest is very important, often the consultant says a couple of weeks recovery, in reality it's more like 6 weeks before you can start being up and about, I'm off work for 8 weeks, maybe more yet. Take care x

  • Hi - thank you so much for asking!  I am doing OK thank you.  Seem to be healing really well so far - minimal discomfort.  Just wary of not doing too much too soon as others have warned about.  Just got to wait for histology now and then will be given follow up appointment.  Everything so far has been so fast and efficient.  I have had two colposcopies,  a follow clinic appointment and surgery in the space of six weeks . I am now being fast tracked for a suspicious lesion on my torso (not related) and have an appt for a prolapse next week so I am currently under 3 different consultants at the hospital!  Apart from all that, and possibly needing root canal treatment - I am dandy! Joy   Enjoy the sunshine x

  • You certainly make me stop feeling sorry for myself! You have a lot to deal with.  Hope you have managed to find a distraction, as a former watercolour artist, that I cant do in bed,  I'm teaching myself textile art, today's job is trying to sort out neater storage as my room is now a disaster zone .  Must stop buying books, but I've managed today to clear a unit in another room for my partner to carry through later, this is an accomplishment for me in last few weeks. The learning of something new had really helped take my mind off the healing and mostly the solitude of it all.

Take care, and keep resting- that's the tough bit x
