Hi, I am 66yrs old and have been having burning/itching down below for about 3 months, after reading up it sounds like Vaginal Atrophy ( I stopped HRT 2007 when dx with Breast Cancer ). I started using Replens internal vaginal moisturiser with Yes gel for exterior with a bit of relief.  For about 2/3 weeks I have had a swollen sore itchy Labia ( left side) and for the past week I noticed stinging when I wee, from the outside not inside so I had a look and there is a sore on the labia. I have looked up symptoms for Vuval Cancer and am now worried it might be cancer. I have an app with gp 5th May.. I know I cannot be dx on here but just wanted to write it down as I have not got anyone that I can talk to about this. Thanks

  • Hello Calendula

    Welcome to the Online community.

Am sorry to see that you are worried that you may have cancer.

It is good that you have made an appointment to get these symptoms checked out and although it is hard not to fear the worst- there may be other conditions that share similarities to vulval cancer. It is natural to worry and fear the worst and especially when it is a long weekend and you have to wait a few days to be seen.

Feel free to post on here as much as it helps. Sometimes just writing it down is a help, I know.

I will pop a link here that you may like to have a look at.

Worried about cancer | Macmillan Cancer Support

If you scroll down to the bottom there is information about other ways to contact Macmillan if you need to. The support line is very good if you feel that speaking to someone would help.

I wish you luck for your appointment next week. Hopefully by then you will have an idea about what the problem is and how it can be treated.

    take care

  • Hi Calendula,

I am sorry to hear that you are worried you may have vulval cancer.

It is good that you have an appointment booked to see you GP, hopefully they can shed some light or refer you to someone that can.

I was diagnosed with vulval cancer a couple of years go, so am happy to talk if ever you want someone to talk to.

I will be keeping everything crossed that yours isn’t cancer.

Good luck and please do let us know how you get on.

    Take care,

    Vulval cancer warrior xx

  • Thanks for your reply. I have noticed that my swollen labia is crusty  first thing in the morning and not as swollen but after moving around and having a wee it puffs up. With it being crusty first thing it seems that its leaking some kind of fluid maybe, its definitely not pus though. Thank god for these forums I feel I could never talk to friends/family about this but I suppose thats why "womens problems* are so taboo, also its so hard to get a gp app now and the receptionist  demanding to know your problem grrr. I have even thought of seeing a private gynecologist but I will see what happens with the gp first..

  • Hi

My symptoms were different to yours. Mine were itching and then later I also had burning. I had a small white lesion too.

It’s very difficult to get a GP appointment so I am glad you’ve managed to get one. It’s always worth getting checked out.

This forum is great, it’s nice to be able to speak to other ladies going through a similar experience.

I hope your GP appointment goes well. Please do let us know how you get on.

As always, I’m always here if you would like to chat.
